One big thing I'd suggest, if nobody else has yet, is to have the wall socket changed. Being that close to the tank, and dealing with water, you really want a GFCI protected socket. These are the ones like you have in your bathrooms with the integrated ground-short protection, and have the test/reset buttons on them.

Literally couldn't agree more with this. Being that close to water, it's an easy $17 to spend for a GFCI.
