ELOS MIDI: SPS Canyon
Hi RC, I've mainly been a lurker, but I thought I'd share my SPS tank after seeing so many inspirational journals and tank threads.
I've been reefing for about years now and I've slowly developed a fascination with acropora and other SPS. I've hoped to create a SPS tank, with a built in frag tank in the cabinet, for future coral propogation. The tank itself is only 3 months old, but the rock used in the tank is 4 years old! Without further delay, here's my tank. Display Tank Technical Information Aquarium ELOS MIDI Stand Ikea SEKTION Kitchen Cabinet Sump Skimz UP18 Light 4 Bulb, 24W ATI/Nanobox Hybrid with 4 NBR Arrays Powerhead 2x Vortech MP10 on 100% Nutrient Transport Mode Frag Tank Technical Information Aquarium 6 Gallon, Derimmed Fluval Edge Light Nanobox Duo Powerhead Jebao WP25 on W3 Filtration and Dosing Filtration Skimz Macroalge Reactor + IceCap K250 + BRS ROX Carbon Balling Aquaforest Component 1, 2, 3 Feeding Autofeeder Eheim Autofeeder, 4x Pellet doses Daily Frozen 1/4 Cube of Calanus for frag tank Daily Dried 2 Scoops BRS Reef Chili Daily Live 5ml Cultured Bakers Yeast Daily: .875g yeast, 7g sugar, 175ml H2O, Cultured for 24 hours |

Looking good.
So you only buy the tank and put it on an Ikea stand? Do you have to have a foam or something soft under the tank?

So you keep your MP10s in nutrient transport mode 24/7? Looks like it is working well.
Also I'm curious on the baker's yeast can you tell us more?

I first learned about feeding yeast from Jamie Cragg's paper titled Inducing broadcast coral spawning ex situ: Closed system mesocosm design and husbandry protocol. I then found out that Unique Corals feed their corals yeast as well, so I decided to culture and dose my own following the protocol outlined in Jamie Cragg's paper. I've literally only been doing it for 5 days, so the Jury is still out. |

I love the MIDI and its footprint. I don't think I would pay full price for a new one however. :/

That red on your digita is out of this world! Is that a fire and ice? Can I get a non-edit version? Please thanks!

I've never sold corals/frags before, but today I'm making some of my first frag sales! This is so exciting; having corals finally pay for themselves...
Untitled by Xiaoxi Yang, on Flickr On a side note, this is a daughter frag cut from one of my corals, originally given to me as a browned out RR Vinh. I've had it for almost 2-3 months now, and it colored somewhat and encrusted on it's original frag plug. Both it and the mother frag are predominantly green without much blue. I wonder if it'll develop the blue tips like the Vinh is known for or if it was mis ID'd. Untitled by Xiaoxi Yang, on Flickr My Blue/Green Milli has finally started to recover. These frags were from a maricultured colony that completely STN'd and browned out. I'm impressed with your colors, especially in such a relatively small system.

Thanks! The teal ombre millepora in the video above was originally a maricultured piece that developed a intense green base/center with blue tips. I'm fondly naming it the Peacock Millepora, given its resemblance to a peacock's tail. Here's a side picture of it. Unlike most acropora, it looks fantastic even from the side! I also scored a BC Upscale Microclades today. I also took a risk on a another maricultured Millepora. It's not much right now, but has hints of pink, orange and green. Hopefully it'll survive and color up for me with time. Hoping to pick up a De Fuego and Vivid Rainbow next weekend as well. Last edited by xiaoxiy; 02/10/2018 at 08:55 PM. |

Would you buy two MP10's again if you were to re-buy circulation pumps? I have an MP10 and an old MP40, but the magnet on the 40's wet side just popped open. Debating on a new MP10 or a new wet side.

I picked up a cool maricultured millepora from my LFS. It's pretty
Here is a nighttime shot of my YR Peachy Blues and LA Lakers. 1 week ago, I wouldn't have dared post this photo due to bryopsis covering the colony. 5 days of fluconazole later, and the bryopsis on this colony is gone! I can't seem to get my red planet to turn red. It has slight hints of pink under actinics but is otherwise green. It's under about 400 PAR too... Quote:
