Are we talking about a naso tang? If so then i would say a 6' tank is on the small side as well although many people put them in small tanks.

I would not do it . My goes from a juvy to a 5-6" in no time. That said they get big and need a lot of swimming room

The tangs that will get the nod from people in a 4 feet tanks are generally the smaller bristletooth (Ctenochaetus) tangs.

i would NOT put a naso in a 4 foot tank.. I have a 180 6 foot tank and wouldn't even put one in that. when I had my 4 foot 75 gallon I had a kole tang that was really fun to watch

Tang that would work:
Yellow Purple Scopus Any Ctenochaetus (bristetooth) except Chevron Only one tang. And it may beat or go postal on similar shaped (laterally compressed) fishes like dwarf angels or butterflies.

IMO, Naso needs at least a 8' tank.

I have a Yellow and Kole Tang in a 4' tank that are best buds. They swim together all day and look like good/evil versions of the same fish lol. I wouldn't do anything larger than that though.

+1 on the 8 foot tank. I had one in my 180 6 foot tank and felt bad about it almost instantly. Fish is too big and powerful, needs more room.

I also have a yellow and a Kole in my 90. They keep the algae down very nicely.

You can have an 8” naso in a 4ft tank with success. Naso isnt going to frown at you.
