Just got my base rock from reefrock today!! Looks good. Will drop it in stock tank to start the cycle after I move it to its final location.

Picked up that barracuda pump, man that thing is huge!! Wondering if its too much for my tank with only 4-5ft of head loss. Reply bing my stock tank Monday/Tuesday to get it back up w water in it for my fish.
Dropped a few shrimp in pantyhose in my trash cans to cycle the rock. Slow n steady Corey |

Just drilled a new hole in the stock tank for the pump. Anyone out there have a barracuda pump, how loud are they? A guy local to me has a goby gold he'd trade with me.
This picture is an outlet that I will use to perform water changes. I live in a flat apartment so to make my life easier I drilled that hole, put a ball valve on it with a nipple. I will connect a hose to that nipple, open the valve and voila water change to a desired level then I can pump my 22 gallon brute of saltwater right back in. Nice an simple. Much easier than my previous method Corey |

Question, the overflow box is going to be internal, how many drains. I was thinking 3 1.5 inch drains and 1 1.5 return then plumb it into 2 returns. Ne on each side of the overflow box. Or would 2 return holes be better.
I'd draw it up to show everyone but I have no clue on google sketch up or anything like that. So anyone care to explain that to me it'd be cool as well! Corey |

Ok, still debating on the barracuda or the goby gold.....and to add confusion I'm not thinking of an aluminum stand instead of wood. Not sure how I'd skin it or if I want to get that route but I'm thinking about it.
Anyone out here have experience with the aluminum stands? Corey |

I've seen metal stands and they used magnets to skin it. That wouldn't work with aluminum though...

Corey, I run 4 1" drains on my 120. Two are full siphons, one is a backup and the last is an additional backup. Completely silent and micro bubble free!

I will. I'll pm ya!
I think I will go with wood for my stand after all. Just a little easier to figure out and 1/2 the price or so... Corey |

I have a barracuda gold. They are relatively quiet for their size and power. My setup has the pump in my basement so the noise doesn't bother me but if it was under my stand would immediately get a new pump it is still very loud. I can't think of a reason one would need to run such a large pump though unless they had a basement build and have all that head pressure. One thing to note is that they run very cool and are also the most energy efficient for their size / rating. How any GPH are you targeting and how much head pressure will you have?

Only about 5ft of head. I got the pump from a guy local breaking his tank down. I can feed my reactors off it but I could do that with the goby pump too. They pump will be right in my living room as will these noisy vortechs . I do like their energy use for water moved

Did you consider a speed wave 10000 they don't come more energy efficient or controllable then that! I have one and it's awesome. heck it out I highly recommend the pump.
