Scrape them off in a separate bucket of water. Be sure to remove all of the aiptasia or it will grow back.

Does aptasia attach to coral and clam?

Hello WatDatThing,
it is attached to the rock with corals, and on the clams shell |

put the shrimp or filefish into the tank with the coral and clams, and just let them work for a living, while you cycle a tank using your rock and sand. By the time the tank is ready for inhabitants, the shrimp/filefish should have eaten the aiptasia, and they can go into the new set up to take care of any that may have survived.

Also I recommend aiptasia X. Sometimes takes a couple shots but it's always worked for me

Berghia Nudibranch, IMO would be the best solution in a reef tank. IME, you have to be real careful to not get the Aiptasia X on no corals. I did that one time and it burnt my coral. Never used it again. Then I tried the peppermint shrimp route and it worked but it came with a price. Once the aiptastia was gone, they started going after my corals, acans, ducans, hammers, torches, and blasto. So I have found the nudibranchs to be the best bet, but once all gone, they can die also.

Peppermint shrimp look at lps like they are caviar. Acans, blastros, and hammer/frogspawn went first.

2 x Peppermint shrimps will take care all of your Aiptasia in no time. They are run $7.00 each in my LFS. I have 2 in my 180G, and they don't touch any of my LPS or SPS

go for the peppermint shrimp like sk8r said. Much better than file fish in my opinion.

I didn't buy him for it, but my Copper Band has taken care of the Aptasia in my tank. It's been a month now since the CBB has been in the DT and I don't see much Aptasia anymore, the ones I do see are big and I believe once they reach a certain size the CBB won't eat them. I don't see the small Aptasia like before I had the CBB.
I look for Aptasia when I'm doing the wc, last weekend all I could find is one big one. Before the CBB I would spend a lot more time trying to knock them back with Aptasia-X. Last edited by jd371; 05/24/2017 at 12:28 PM. |

You better have a good way of catching them when they go after your coral.

Jury still seems to be out on whether peppermints will or won't eat corals. I just got rid of 2 because they were crawling all over my LPS, ****ing them off. They weren't eating them though. Worst case, you get unlucky and they do eat corals and you pull them. It's not that hard to catch them. Easier than a fish in my experience.
You can also use kalk just like aiptasia X. It's worked well for me in the past. |

Aiptasia eating nudies cured my 180 from thousands of them. Took about 3-4 months to reproduce upto the numbers needed to eat them all but it worked!!! Haven't seen one in 6 months! They are pricy but worth it.

I have 3 tanks ,Refugium Tanks all connected to a central sump in my basement..
I had a Aiptasia outbreak.. I mean like 3 weeks all tanks over ran.. I bought 10 peppermint shrimp a file fish and a Copper Band Butterfly.... So i put CBB in the 240 gal display File fish in the Coral grow out tank. 4 shrimp in the fuge 4 shrimp in 70 gallon tank 2 shrimp in my sump where my DSB resided 5 1 gallon buckets of sand.. Its now about 2 months later and NOT One aptasia except in the exterior over flow box and a few in my skimmer chamber in the sump where the shrimp cant get to.. I say all 3 methods work....... My Test is NOW Concluded .. ohh the file fish has a taste for Bristle worms as well. Cbb also took care of a few flat worm i have spotted on a mushroom colony.. You gotta live Natural cures

Copper band took care of mine, but when it was gone it took a while to get him to eat other food.
