I have all the pieces in place to get it set up now. Went to my (fantastic) LFS and picked up some live sand and some salt. I don't have enough tubs to mix saltwater outside of my tank, so I'm going to mix it in the system...then put my sand in. Can't wait for a week long sand storm. No problem, I've got time. But I do think my clowns are getting a little tired of that 5 gallon bucket...

Going well so far. Up to 1.02 and climbing. Hoping to get the egg crate and sand in tonight before bed. Going to do 30ish lbs of Arag alive fiji. I don't have the water level high enough to get to the overflow teeth yet. Waiting on my return pump. But wanting to get my poor fish out of that bucket.
Another 14 hour call day tomorrow in the ICU. Happy sunday everyone.

Wanted to get yalls thoughts on the Jebao PP4.
Right now I have my trusty MP10 from waaaaay back in 2011. I bought that thing on sale for $175. It has served me beyond well. It's a little noisy these days, and for some reason the black vinyl on the back of the SCA 50 is all it takes to prevent the magnet from hooking up. I can put it on the side (that's how I'm mixing my salt right now) but can't at all get it to work on the rear glass. The Jebao looks interesting. They weren't a well known business last time I was in the market for a power head. Just bought a return pump from them. I don't think I'm willing to sink nearly $300 on a new MP-10. I love not having cords in the water, but that aesthetic is kind of null if I have to have my MP10 obscuring the view of my cube from the side. So I'm thinking about getting 2 PP4's and routing the cable up the black seam of the overflow box- assuming the magnet is strong enough. I would love if they run really quiet but haven't seen on in person. A pair for $100 is a steal. Thoughts?

Yeah, can't comment on the Jaebo as I have no experience with it. I will be running Current USA on my 45g and will also be running a larger Current USA system on the 150g. Spent the day working on the sump plumbing and electrical.

Tank is about 80% clear with my MP-10 on about 90% pushing everything around. There's settled dust everywhere. Wish I would have rinsed it but I didn't have extra salt water on hand and then again there's a debate on the utility of washing live sand. For now I'm waiting for my return pump today and my last bulkhead tomorrow. At that point I can get the sump going with some filter floss to get the sand particles out. Technically I could put my clowns in the new cube now but the sand cloudiness makes me a little nervous. Your plumbing looks awesome. This the first time I've hard plumbed a tank, so mines a little sloppy. But I'm praying that the herbie system I plumbed is quieter than the durso I just gave up on.

This is my first plumbing job also. Was curious why you started without having all your gear? I hope everything goes well for the fish while they wait. Do you have any nearby reefer buddies who could home them until you have flow in your tank? Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk |

They are silent though the newer version the ow is even better as it have more control directionally and better motor.
You can also look at coral box line which is an upscale Jabeo basically. Bit better components. Quote:

Ok, emergency drain installed. Left it elevated to serve as a warning device. I want to hear the water splash into the sump in the event the main drain get blocked.

Plumbing looks great man!
To answer your questions about starting without the gear: I thought I had all my gear. I got the plug and play system. That plumbing was definitely not plug and play, so I had to upgrade some parts and wait for things to arrive and days off to get it together. So in regards to the herbie system: Could not be more impressed. It is dead silent. A few minor leaks to fix tonight, but i just wanted to plug everything together and get a noise level. Going to get everything tightened down and glued together to cure overnight. Really like the controllable return pump also. This wasn't a thing last time I bought a return pump. Just wish my Jebao pump came with actual suction cup feet instead of the little rubber nubs, but can't really complain otherwise. I have it set to about 40% and there's a very minor whine but definitely can't hear it over the stock skimmer.

That's awesome man. Love the peninsula.
For 50 gal owners out there - roughly how much evaporation do you see daily?

Just a thought as I have both the PP4 and PP8's in use. You might want to go with the PP8's, as the PP4 I have does not push much water at all. The PP4 I have was is in my sump turning the chaeto and it barely moves. The PP8's I have in tank on the other hand can blow the water right out of the tank.
Of course they are both adjustable, but in my eyes it's better to have to turn them down instead of running at 100% 24/7.

Caught most of my fish in the holding tank except a yellow eye kole tang. Once I get him I will drop salinity and get the full QT started.
