When you had (or still have) all those 10 gallon tanks plumbed together, what size pump were you using to get the water there?
I'm setting up a similar setup in my basement and want to be sure I have enough flow, but not over-bearing either...

The only heater issues I have had to date have been on my larve tanks. If I do go and get a controller, It will be for my big setup. Buys several different ones for my different setups is way out of my price range.
Thank you guys for the compliments! |

When it comes down to it everyone has different experiences with different heaters. I've been running a Won Ti heater in my display for 7 years with no problems to date. Others' have had catstrophic events apparently with Won. All my growout/breeding systems have multiple Ebos' on a Ranco that make it rock solid. Nice Job on the system and good luck with your future breeding!

You have a real nice set up like the plumbing with the flex hose . I build mine with just PVC and cracked like four tanks before I decided to drill the bottom.

I believe the system could hold anywhere from 1k to 2k of clowns. I do only have 10G tanks on mine, So when I get higher in count, I will need to really get my cleaning done pat. Right now I have some cheato doing the work with 12h of lighting. I am working on a 30G tank as a refug setup to help export. For this, I will have a 24 light on the cheato. I may hook up a small algae scrubber as well, Will have to see how the cheato goes first. I personally will not hold 2k clowns in this system. If I get to that point, I will build a bigger 2 tier system for more room....
Still awaiting the cycle to finish in my broodstock setup. Should be done by next week I hope so I can start moving my pairs over... I did mine with flex tubing just for that point. I really dont like cracking tanks. I mimic'd others setups that have the same drain style. |

I have 2 5 gallon tanks with heaters and air. They are sitting next to my display in the living room.. I put my larve/fry on my system at 30 days. Doing this I only need 2 larve tanks.

Looks awesome! I'd be happy if I could get one clutch to grow out. Great work! Lids are a must.. I went from 6 to 5 on my last batch when one thought he could fly.

I tried Chaeto but it got way to dirty. It was holding all kinds of crap. I had to get rid of it.

That happens to me as well with the cheato.... I tosed the last portion and trimmed some more from my display. Seemed to work good...

I also noticed my chaeto getting really dirty. Now, once a week I take it out of the sump really carefully, and shake it like crazy in a 5gallon bucket of tapwater. It doesn't seem to have any adverse effects on the chaeto. The crud that comes out is unbelievable.

The cheato itself is very versitlie, I have seen people store it in a bucket of saltwater for 30 days in the dark, pull it out and have it grow again... Not that I have tried this myself. As it grows like a weed in my display tank. It is amazing stuff it lit properly. My diszplay kicks off 0 nitrates. If some does show, I leave my sump light on longer and it does the trick. For my growout, I take about half from my display tank and half newly ASW.

For my display, it has been just a clamp on light with a 100W light output CFL bulb in it for my cheato. For my growout it has been just the strip lights I have above the tanks... Hopefully soon, I will have my Adult pairs in their own broodstock setup. Then I can put in a dedicated Fuge/Cheato/algae scrubber. It will be at least until the late weekend for pictures. Too much to do for the holiday....

That last picture looks amazing!... Is that a Minibow5?
I am not sure if it will be easier to maintain or not. I just think, the ones that started spawning for me have been in reef tanks so I want to make it confortable for them. I do plan on getting the sand sifting snails to keep things clean on the sand. I hate to clean the bottom of the tanks and this may make this easier for me. Time will tell I guess. What are your nitrates on your system. Mine have been between 20 and 40... Sregnar35, Thanks again for everything, If down the line you setup another tank want want a pair, let me know, you can pick them for free... |
