29g biocube. how much sand?

Do most of you use eggcrate at the base of your cube?

How much sand are you using? I imagine a 15 lb bag would be enough for the standard 1" sand depth, but want to be sure.

I didnt use eggcrate in my 29.. I do in my large tanks tho, because of large fish. I didnt even use a whole 20lb bag. Maybe 2/3 of it. Do you plan on having anything that buries itself completely?

I plan on having a mixture of snails and crabs, along with a gobie. Nothing I can think of that will bury itself though.

Im no fish expert, but I was reading that it helped the rock from moving and shifting.

It does help, which is why it was always in my big tanks.. I have a maroon clown, a splendid dottyback, and a psychedelic mandarin... Not much rock pushing power there.

Google. There are online calculators to determine how much sand you need based on your tank dimensions.

I used two 20lbs bags of Fiji Pink for my 29g Biocube.

The sand is pretty deep and looks great imo.

Thanks! I found a ton of calculators on marine depot.

Looks like 15-30 would be the perfect range for me. Im going to go with the black sand. It looks pretty awesome in a few of the setups ive seen on here.

I did 30lb and my orange diamond goby has plenty to sift and move around.

love me some black sand, but i think i was told long ago that it will bleach out over time. Is this correct?

15-20 should be fine you could make it a bit more if you wanted a deep sand bed
