Redsea net screen tank cover
Hello,
Anyone has experience using the redsea net screen to cover the top of your tank ? I read that its made of alluminium which as my knowlegdge is not good for saltwater, right ? Altough it will not touch directly water, there are always water splash on top of the tank which may lead to corrosion... |

I don't have experience with that specific brand..
There is no real reason you can't use aluminum in close proximity to a tank.. Tons of people use it for their screen tops without issue.. We will all be dead before corrosion is a real problem in most cases.. Not to mention it looks like its been anodized or finished in some way only further reducing problems of corrosion.. I would not worry one bit about using it.. I personally just switched out my net top for a polycarbonate one last night to reduce evaporation.. I was sick of 2-2.5G a day of evap.. I used this.. http://www.greenhousemegastore.com/p...plastic-sheets My tank is an 80G rimless and the 2'x4' panel fits perfectly on it.. Just needed 3 cutouts.. 2 for my returns and one for my fish feeder and its perfect..

It is no different from the very common DIY screen top made from BRS mesh and window screen frames - but it may very well cost more

I just recently got the same RedSea screen top and I really like it a lot. I have it on a 24" cube. Putting it together took a little elbow grease to cut the frame to size, especially since I made a cutout for my light clamp. Tricky part was getting the screen in tight. Great product though and I would recommend it to others.
I went the screen route after having a glass top because the condensation would leave large drops on the glass that would cause a bad effect with my light. It looked like spots were focused as if it went through a magnifying glass.

I have a red sea 250 and installed there screen a month or so ago. I think its a great product, was a little surprised how manual the build was, but in the end, it looks great. Weird it only rests on 4 plastic points on the tank, wish it would have been many more.
