Where exactly did you collect zoa's?
There are "new" restrictions...
Of course I only collect fish now...

Zoas

There is a marina next to ala moana beach park. Huge colonies of florescent yellow covering the rock.

Are you talking about Kewalo?
I have been there many times and have not seen any...
Do you mean inside the marina?

Ahhhh, the memories I was stationed at Barber's Point from 1986-1990. Even in the barracks I had a 30 long and a 29, but once off base and in Makakilo with some room-mates we had a total of four 55 gallons and three 30 gallons. Only one of the 55's was a continual display tank. The rest were just an ever rotating mix of what was collected. I forget the specifics now, but we did pay for an upgraded license of some sort to be able to sell or trade, besides just our own use. There was a place (memory shot) somewhere around Pearl City that shipped nationwide we sold to, but got a better deal for credit. We never got good enough to make anything, but the credit covered a lot of what we wanted.

Crazy part though is we discovered how high they would pay for stonefish, so it became our primary fish. Looking back on it today we were likely just the ones dumb enough. We did well enough to support the rest of our hobby, and at times we got out of the water too late and ended up with over-stocked tanks full of stonefish for a day.

The most fun, and irritating, though was spending hours in a tide pool to get that ONE banded coral shrimp I HAD to have for my display tank!!!

Good luck to you guys, and thanks for your service as well!! Hawaii is an awesome place to be stationed!

Not there anymore but I got the following from these locations: Neon green Palys- Hale Ewa marina on the waters edge where the grass meets the water bye the boats on the rocks covered with muscles, Pink zoas- Electric beach where the waves crash into the discharge area, Green zoas and "Ding Dang" from shark's cove AREA. Look AROUND that area. Mann's anemone on the boulders out of the water at sharks cove. Also I'd pick up anemone hermit crabs during night dives but if you flip rocks during the day you'll find em and other "suprises". Don't stop looking and report back with detailed updates. Also I went with black sand and it looks amazing! I took a trip to the Big I and got some from the beach there and flat rated 4 boxes back to my front door. I mailed it then went directley to the airport to fly GO! back to Oahu and by the time I got to Wahiwa it was at my front door before I was. HOLY HELL!!!
