Doser dumped all the calcium in my reservoir

Hi reefcentral!
Here’s the situation. Last night I come home from work and look at my tank and noticed one
Of the heads on my dosing pump was off from the doser. I’m using the eshoppes two head doser.
I look in the reservoir to see the calcium was completely empty. The alkalinity was still full.
I did a 15 gallon water change today before work. I will be testing for calcium and alkalinity tonight after work.
Should I be worried? I ordered a new dosing pump last night to replace this one.

I suspect the tank will be fine, but the calcium supplement might have enough trace elements of some sort to cause a problem. If you don't see any problems in the next day or so, I think worst is over.

If you are worried, a bit of fresh carbon might help remove chelated metals that might otherwise be toxic, but I am not sure that it's needed.

Ok. Thanks for the reply. I feel a lot better after reading you response. If things look kind of off I will put in a little carbon.
If thins look ok I’ll just leave it alone. Maybe do another small water change in a couple of days.
Thanks again!

do you know why the head came off?

I have no idea why or how the head came off. I’ve been running this dosing pump for 1.5 years with no problem. Then one night after work I see the head off and an empty calcium reservoir.

I would be worried if it had dumped your alk solution, not so much with ca

Yeah man. I’m still thinking about what if it was the alkalinity solution instead of calcium.
So far everything is still ok.

I tested calcium with salifert kit and used the whole 1ml syringe and no change in color.
It’s off the charts. But everything is still ok. I will do another small water change tonight after work
