Who has been buying Acropora abrotanoides

There must be some experience out there now, Divers Den and Cherry Corals have sold a ton of them. I'm wondering what is everyone's experience? Did they brown or hold their color? What is the growth rate? Thank you.

They have been importing maricultured abrotanoides as long as i can remember. Personally i have tried 3 of them over the years and had no luck at all.

Yes, i would be freaked if i saw a purple one.

The LFS here has a red one that has been surviving in low water flow somehow. I want it but my new system isn't ready yet. It's teasing me!

They are difficult, but possible. I don't consider it a newbie Acro. Have you seen new reefers buy them and kill them often?

High light, high flow coral.

Other than that, it quite easy to keep one.

very difficult but not impossible...your right. Ive only known 3 people to manage keeping them looking good and growing. 2 of those online and one local reefer....my local reefer friend had his RTN recently too after a while of good growth and color.

That does not look like an Abro, it may be robusta.

I have tried 3 of them as well with no success. IMO, this species should not be allowed to import. If you can keep one alive for over 6 months, you have a really nice system and you got lucky as well.

Well now you have seen one. Purple with Blue polyp Abrotanoides. Had this for quite a while. It likes PAR above 500 and strong indirect flow. It has finally decided to "pop" and start growing quickly.

I just took a couple more pics and am tring to upload to photobucket now. For some reason, I keep getting an error.

I don't see an abro in those corals.

Ya know, you may actually be right. I'm looking at the coralite structure from some pics I've found on line, and they do look different. The one that was sold to me as (and I originally thought it was) an abrotanoides was the one in the very center that looks purple.

I'll provide some updated pics as it grows more. At this point, the coralites look different from an Abro. Bummer.

James

Yea that isn't an abro...

I think the one in this tank of the month is though and if so is the best captive colony I've ever seen.

Yeah, Tony B is one who always kept that abro. I have been admiring that abro for a long time. I remember seeing it as a smaller colony.

So are these A. abrotanoides?

I got them because I liked the growth structure, never bothered to ID them though...Had the green/pink for 4 months (its encrusted now, old pic) and the red for 5 months.
