Real Reef rock is always this purple But I'm not worried about it, because it will be covered in coralline algae in a few months giving it a more natural look. Brand new dry rock that is bright white doesn't look natural also.

As far as I know Real Reef rock is almost "dry" rock. It is packed in moist paper but I can't find anything alive on it when it arrives in the box. It doesn't smell like Liverock or has salt residue on it so my suspicion is that it is cleaned very well before shipping, making it more or less cured dry rock.

Looking good, I'm sure it will be a stunner. Also I like your chairs and art in the viewing area

Another masterpiece in the making! Guess we will have to wait on the 'theme'!

Thanks No ideas about the Theme yet... At least it will be Acropora dominant again.

I'm slowly adding salt now, I ramp it up 10 promille every 24 hours and let it dissolve in between. I use a mix of Reef Crystals and D&D H2Ocean Salt.
Tomorrow the system will be ready to be seeded, I will use several products:

Prodibio Biodigest
JBL FilterStart
Seachem Stability

Walt Smith Refugium Mud

Thanks Florian!!

I keep my Acanthurus Triostegus for almost 8 years now... I'm planning to give him some friends in the new reef. I was thinking about 7 A. Triostegus in total.
I think it would look great to have them in a school together with plenty of room to swim.

Dankje Franklin, altijd welkom!

Thanks Austin! Convicts can be hard in the beginning but he/she has been through a lot after all these years, and still is fat and happy.
Curious how they will behave all together.

Thanks Flo!

After adding The D&D salt I found a little of the infamous brown residue in the filter socks, but the amount was very little.
Take into account that I added a whole large bucket of salt.

Here's a photo how I seed/cycle the tank.
I put a large shrimp in the filtersock to introduce some ammonia, and several bacterial products to get the cycling started.

I've used a very high grade sand for the RDSB.
Did a magnet check but came out absolutely clean, fortunately.

The refugium mud and coral sand were mixed together for the RDSB.
There will be four of these in the refugium tank.
I always work with RDSB's because all the tanks remain BB.
The refugium mud is new for me, who knows if it will add something extra.

I also finished the water station. I can tap RO water or fill the large 80 gallon reservoir using a valve next to the water tap.
The RO unit automatically shuts down when the reservoir is full using a float switch.

I only have to install a PVC valve to empty the reservoir when I do a waterchange and install a mixing pump.

I use a 5-stage double membrane Vertex RO unit /200G per day.

I also placed the first of the two black eggcrate panes for the fragmentation tank.

I can sit watching all this for hours at the moment... Really enjoying the outcome of the equipment room already.

Thanks for watching, feel free to comment!

Here's a short video to get a better idea of the showtank's reefscape.

Thanks Andrew! Yes, it was my plan to document everything very well from the start. I noticed that I enjoy these kind of build threads myself the most, and it is fun to scroll back after a few years

I also need a RO that stops automatically...
Have been swimming outside my bathtub way too often xD

I'm also going to buy a new RO, manly the same as the vertex just cheaper from eBay! How is your opinion on this? How is the use water to waster water percentage?

Really love your equipment room!!

Thanks Flo. I would get a unit with a microprocessor. A little unit that controls all functions; automatic flush, automatic shut off/start, TDS display etc. Really worth the money.
I believe the given ratio for this unit is 1:1 in ideal circumstances... But no ones tapwater is warm so I would say about 1:2 in practice.

Ahhhh the vertex has this controller? Sweet! Mine soon to be looks nearly the same, also has some computer build in...

1:2 sounds realistic...

Your aquascape came out really good. Tons of room for corals and perfect for flow moving through the tank.

Very interesting . I have never seem that done before with plates on an angle. Looks like it could be really good for showing off acros. I like the idea... And great flow through the tank like mentioned above

Hey Leonardo, I've been following your threads for years now. After all this time and all the reefs I've seen, I must say, Formosa Forest sticks with me and is still at the tops of my list of all time favorites. Love the stags!! I'll be watching this build as well. Convict tangs are one of my favorites. I've had one for about 3-4 years now. It will be interesting to see how a group will get along together in your aquarium. Good work so far, subscribed.

Thanks Guys!

This week I have seen Nitrite rise and fall, after adding a chunk of shrimp last week.
This means the population of bacteria is somewhat established to handle some bioload. This means time for phase 2. Adding more biodiversity.

My initial idea was to add some Liverock, but that brings several risks for introducing pests like Aiptasia, flatworms and Briopsis.

Thats why I picked up some rock, detritus and livesand from an established tank from a friend of mine. This tank is free of pests, and full of small microlife. Perfect for introducing all kinds of fauna.

One rock already had some Zoanthus on it, curious how they will hold in this early stage.
The rock with Zoanthus is placed in the Fragmentation tank, the other rock on top of the RDSB. The livesand and detritus was placed carefully on top of the RDSB.

I will now wait for several weeks and let the microlife develop. Skimmer, UV and GAC/GFO filters are not in function so all the organisms have optimal chances for development.

Good to read Leonardo!!

Waiting for several weeks can be pretty tough...

Turning all the filters and so on off is a pretty good idea, never did that before.... But next time!!

Can't wait for it to come together!!
