You could consider adding a bit more fish food or dosing nitrate. I'd probably try the fish food first, because it tends to be easy and can help with fish coloration, but either is reasonable to try.

I feed my fish 2 times a day, I can also put auto feeder with some dry foods for more food per day.

Might take a few days to week to start seeing nitrates after stopping both of them

So after a week of heavy feeding my Nitrates are still 0.0 but my Phosphates skyrocket from 0.04 to 0.16

Nitrates won't raise as fast as phosphates. Some foods. Especially flake food is loaded with phosphates

You could consider dosing some form of nitrate. I would try food-grade sodium nitrate.

Im by no means more qualified than most of the uber reefers on this forum but swinging your Alk that much is EXTREMELY stressful to SPS.. If you had a 200-300 gallon tank it wouldn't be so much of a swing but in a smaller system like yours the Red Sea is going to fry your sps...Use Fritz RPM for your salt Ive been doing WC for the past couple weeks and my corals seem to be very happy.. I keep my all around 8.25 and the Fritz salt on 2 separate batches Ive prepared at 1.026 have read 8.3 DKH on both batches. As far as why this hasn't happened previously don't know for sure but Alk swings are deadly to SPS in my experience..Good luck bro

I'm not clear on why the Red Sea salt is going to be an issue, but I haven't used it before. How much of an alkalinity shift does the tank have when the water change is done? We could calculate that give the alkalinity level in the salt and the tank, and the total water volume of the system.

I never had problems with salt before. I always do 20 gal and my total volume is ~100 gal. The Red Sea salt has 13 dkh of Alk at sg 1.026. My tank usually at around 8.4 I never tested Alk right after the WC because I never had problems.

The water change should cause about 1 dKH change, which should be fine.

The max suggested dkh increase over a 20 hour period shoulnt exceed 1.4, and upon a single water change but doing multiple back to back wc that number can mess u up..

Going to dose NO3 because I still have it undetectable.

BTW my poly filter that I put in the sump didn't change a color.

No color change is good news. Dosing nitrate might help. Please keep us posted! It's useful to hear about people's results.

How are you measuring your SG? If you are using a refractometer did you calibrate it and how?

I have a solution with SG 1.026. Calibrate every time I use it.

Today for the first time i dosed Nitrates using Potassium Nitrate. I made a solution 1 tea spoon mixed with 250ml of RODI water. Added 2 ml to the sump for now. Will test for Nitrates later and will add more if needed. Aiming for 1 ppm for now.

I don't know if anybody's mentioned it before but I just saw you had 9.8 alk on a low nutrient tank I learned from bio pellets to keep my alk at 7.5-8 dkh or my sps tips would start burning with 0 nitrates and phos

Ok, finally after dosed 60 ml of the solution I got 0.25 on the Red Sea test. Is it safe to go straight to 1 ppm or better do it slowly?

I suspect that 1 ppm of nitrate will be fine. I might shoot for 0.5 ppm, though, since I'm the cautious sort, but probably I'd just go for 1 ppm. A day between doses should be fine as a starting point.

Up to 10ppm nitrates is ok for sps. I wouldn't purposely shoot thst high but .5 or 1ppm is fine. Either one is ok. To me as long as my test kits reads any nitrate I am fine.

The Alk swings you get by letting your alk number fall then raising it quickly with a water change can't be helping. You want your alk # to be as steady as possible. I would definitely get some nitrates in the tank and maybe switch from Red Sea Pro to Regular blue bucket Red Sea salt.

It's not getting any better I am throwing away dead corals every week. Tank is getting worst. Now my LPS started to separate from a skeleton. Sand covered in green algae, aptaisia started popping up everywhere. I had couple here and there but never so many before. My room started to smell like ocean at low tide, never before.

I don't know what else to do.

I just read your whole thread and have you checked for stray voltage or rust? I haven't experienced the stray voltage but I did have a magnet start to rust in my algae clip that raised hell. It took me a long time to figure it out but I bought a new algae clip and within a few weeks everything was back to normal.

Well yesterday I start taking **** out of my tank. Found one of my heaters had condensation inside, so i replaced it, removed algae magnet that i was using as rack for my plugs.

I really think it's not about your alk/cal/mag/sg or anything like that and more like something is in your tank. Like I said, it took me a while to figure out what was causing the issue, but I did find it and everything slowly went back to normal. Hopefully you have the same experience.

off topic...what part of long island are you from? I'm in Oakdale
