GSP Issue

I'm sure you get this all the time that they don't open or slightly open. I had purchases this GSP about 1 month ago, opened right up as soon as it hit the tank, and was doing very well where I placed it. My hermit crabs started to walk on it and had knocked of the rocks a couple of time and since then it seems like it has gone down hill. I have placed it on the sand bed where it gets good flow and it is opening but not as full as it was when I bought it. Any suggestions?

One pic is before and what it looks like now.

Lighting - I have an AI Prime with 10 hours lighting 3.5hours of ramp time
PH 8.1
Salinity 1.24
No Ammonia.

Other corals seem to be doing fine in the tank.

I would raise your sg which will also raise the rest of the minerals needed for a happy coral tank. Bring it up to 1.026 but do it slowly. Best way to do this is to mix your top off water to 1.026 and check your tank sg a few hours after to see where the sg is. You can go back to RODI for top off after the sg is at 1.026. This process will take a few weeks. Also having said this mix your wc water to 1.026.

Just keep that coral in low as well as in a low current area. Too much light and too much flow will keep them with tight tentacles.

Also your tank looks like it's kinda new, the pristine white sand and rocks make me think this. I wouldn't add anymore corals until your tank has some maturity maybe 6 months. They will do much better with some maturity of your tank.

Don't worry about this coral. It is very hard to kill. I have a few colors of this same coral and they all like high flow and medium light. I'm my experience, the only way to kill it is by not giving it flow. Other than that, this is the weed of the reef world.

It was open this morning, but my hermit crabs have made it a spot to climb on so now I know why it's closed most of the time

I have 2 GSP colonies. One of them has closed up to 2 weeks at a time and then it opens up for months on end. The other is a 'toxic green' kind.. has grown quite a bit and closes for 1-3 days at a time about every 2 weeks.. don't know why, but it always opens back up and keeps growing.

Oh yeah. These corals will do this until they become accustomed to CUC walking over them.

One trick i've learned with GSP, If they aren't opening...More flow. Before you know it you'll have gsp growing all over!
