Ok - I had a complete brain fart. Salinity is the one parameter we can measure with certainty because we can calibrate a refractometer with a calibration solution, so you actually can say for certain what the salinity is, and then by comparing the ratios get a reasonable estimate what the other ions would be; so if the NSW you collect off the coast is 'average' at 1.026, the Mg should be too.

Just wanted to mention and give a big thank you to sleepydoc for doing some cross checking with the RedSea Mg kit with me.

I plan to write up about it here but awaiting some results back from AquaForest that is doing some ICP testing. Hopefully soon.
