CLUGO's 244 Gallon Tank
Some i've upgrading from my current 115 gallon rimless to a 244 gallon to is scheduled to arrive this coming week.
Here's the list: -Main display dimensions are 72x28x28 w/center bean animal overflow -custom sump measuring 40x32x18 = approx. 100 gallons -separate refugium measuring 24x14x18 = approx. 26 gallons -DIY tank stand -MTC skimmer -DC10000ii return pump -GEO media reactor -GEO Kalk Reactor -LifeReef Calcium Reactor -4 x MP40s -Lighting is still undecided, but will most likely be completely T5's or a 5ft Hamilton MH/T5 combo. No LED at this time. I'm hoping to finish painting the inside of the stand this weekend and complete skinning and painting the outside Monday. The skimmer arrives Monday and the rest of my plumbing arrives Monday-Tuesday. I still need to tear down my current tank before next Sat and Sunday when the new owner comes to pick it up. I've attached a few pics. More to come. |

Design of 100 gallon live rock sump. There will also be a separate refugium plumbed next to the sump.

im debating whether or not the fuge I'm planning is too small. The sump is approx 100 gallons an the fuge was going to be 26 gallons.
Too small? |

Depends on what you want a fuge to do. If you just want a haven to grow pods then what you have is fine. If you are expecting it to be a major component of your filtration system you need at least 100 gal for your system size.

I don't have the space for another 100 gallons. Should I just abort the fuge for now then?

Pods are a good thing, but I think you should concentrate on what filtration you are going to set up in the sump, especially for the first 6-8 months. Remember, a system isn't considered stable until it is at least two years old. That leavers you plenty of time to set up all sorts of ancillary systems.

I would suggest you add a GAC reactor, as well. You may not need GFO further down the road, but GAC will always have a role to play.

Agreed. But no fuge if it's not large enough to make a dent?

If you have room for the small fuge then go for it. My point was simply that it will be better at producing pods, which is good, than reduce nitrates all that much, if that's what you were counting on it for.

Wouldn't the lr also be a good place for pod production?
