Guam?
If I were to accept a GS position in Guam...
Is it unrealistic to have a reef tank there?

I would think you can. Besides there are coral reefs out there.

You might want to PM r-balljunkie. He lives in the Marshall islands and probably has some thoughts.

If you have the Facebook, join Guam Aquarium Enthusiasts group. The head guy for the Dept. of Agriculture and Wildlife is on there. PM me if you have any questions but don't want to join the group.

I bet you could make a beautiful NSW tank there, just check the local laws before pulling anything live from the waters. Then again, if you can fish the Pacific for Achilles tanks for food why wouldn't you be able to house one?

you can get NSW at the Marine Biology lab, it's actually like 1.5 miles from where my parents live. I got my follow on to Guam, see whoever's going to be there in 2017!
coral and inverts seem to be a no-go but i'll figure something out. I really want to try curing dry rock in the ocean. Apparently harvesting live rock is also a no go, but this makes sense. Well, off to Saudi for a year!! |

I was in Okinawa, had a tank.
Just follow the rules and you will be fine. Locals, rules, play fair - tanks are awesome. NSW = gold. I'll even use it here in the colder waters of California (Monterey) although I live up North. Again, follow the law and you can have free water easy enough.

I'm a little late but I just got from Guam. They don't have very much for selection in Lfs but their laws seem pretty chill. Just don't take anything out of one of the wildlife perserves.
