From what I've read, mantis can't stand each other, and as they grow they will attempt to kill each other off until there is only one left.
An interesting suggestion I got from another reefer regarding pests on fresh rock was to add something really belligerent like a yellow margin trigger that will eat just about anything, including any crabs and worms it can find in the rock. Dave.M

If you can borrow an octopus, it will clean the tank of crab, shrimp and mantis in no time.

Sushi, baby! At least you'll know what it's been eating.

UPDATES!
First real livestock (other than all the hitch hikers) Some of the growth in my RSM that will get transferred over. To battle the heat I decided (meaning my wife suggested after subliminally planting the idea) to build a fish room around my garage setup. An AC will cool the room quite nicely and I should be able to maintain a regular 79 degrees without a chiller. |

Very nicely done so far.
Does your area require you to get a building permit for that type construction? How did you attach it to the wall? Some inspectors will accept digital pictures as long as it is from different angles and shows great detail. Just some food for thought.

I always love the TBS rock. Hitchhikers can be a pain, but it is worth it for the biodiversity in my opinion. Can't wait to see where this goes!

I could even start a coral farming business on my property if I wanted. We fixed 2x4s to the floor with expansion bolts and then built the walls off of that. |

You almost could have gone straight up, on that one wall. At least that will give you some storage for longer stuff above the room. Now you can put more stuff on the other wall too. GFI's/Plugs every where.
Did you see the room I re-purposed in my 180 build thread?

Nice build. That live rock is amazing, as is the plumbing and everything else.
And, everyone needs a fish room.

I have most of the walls up but I am leaving one off so I can get the new water tanks into the room. The temp is already down to a steady 78.

So, it has been a while... sorry for not updating.
Here is a visual update: My aqualifters for the calcium reactor kept dying, so I just bit the bullet: New tanks for QT and sump Some additions I removed my old regulator and upgraded to something that was actually effective. From this: To this: Then after all that we were about to go to California for a 2 week trip. And I had a little health scare. Waited 3 days and then headed out to Cali. |

I have decided to upgrade my WC station based on some of the designs I have see in other large tank builds.
In place. I still need to build the platform and plumb it all together. Just waiting for a pair of DC pumps I ordered. And a short fish room tour. |

I got a fantastic deal on a new skimmer at MACNA.
This was one of the display skimmers so I got the "We don't want to carry it home" deal. |
