Going G5 radion???
Just curious who is going this route. I've never had a radion before but after 7- 8 years i need to replace my kessil 360W. My light spectrum must have shifted or weakened. I punched in some numbers and over the years I'm close to 40000 hours. Expensive purchase but I'm not losing my coral. I considered the 64hd hydra for a little less but payment has gone through already. It's a little overkill for my tank but I'd like to upgrade one day.

I got a pair of XR30 G4 pros last year and love them. I can only guess that the G5's will be that much better.
Let us know!!!

If it's going to last you another 7 years, i'd do it. I've had my kessil ap 700 for 5 years now and I can't see another unit putting out better light. But if the radion puts out better light then this kessil, your going to be so happy with the purchase. Pay the extra $$.

If you can, I would wait another 6 months or so on the new G5s. Let the early adopters work out the kinks of the recent release of the latest generation Radion. From reported fan noise issues to cracked lenses due to poor packaging and a Mobius app that is still very much a work in progress, I think you’d be better served by waiting a few more months before you upgrade. Hopefully it will be a more refined and finished product by then.

Thanks for the advice but already ordered. I don't have at least a few months to wait and would have had to ordered something else. I'm sure it will be ok and if not have the warranty to cover any issues.
Afford it? Who said i could afford it. |

All good! Please update us on your opinion of the G5s when you get them up and running on your tank.

Well I got my new G5 and it's very nice. As far as people saying they had shipping damage yes there are a few problems. For one the box is not packaged good to where the power pack could slide around and damage the lights. My lense looks ok but I'm going send in a pic of it anyway along with a slight crack by a screw to ecotech.
All in all it's not bad but for the money it should have been in perfect condition. Everything works at least and I get no cracking sound or noisy fan. Man is it bright though and yes mobius is a pain. The spread is unreal. My tank is 35 inches long and there is no problem lighting it up, even on low intensity. I would not be surprised if your tank was four feet long that it would spread to most of it but ideally you would need two.... maybe. You still get great shimmer and not much of wasted light outside my 40 gallon breeder. I have no regrets buying this. I can't compare it to the G4 but it does come with cloud cover and intense thunderstorms. I just love the thing! |

I think the cracked case is a common problem with the G5's. I got three and don't remember seeing cracks but after reading about them I checked and all three have the cracks now.

It wouldn't hurt to see what they say.
On my XR15, when the fan turns on, I can hear it when I'm next to it but when I'm on the couch (about 15' away) I can not hear the fan running.

The only thing I didn't like about any generation of G's were the disco effect thus I went with A360X and love how natural the shimmer are especially pair with sets of T5's
