That is a very beautiful setup! I am also going to be upgrading to a 24g -- an AquaPod 24g 150W HQI. I was very curious as to what 150W would be like over a small cube, and now I know

How is the temperature on that lighting system? I noticed that you keep the light very far away from the surface of the water.

If the light were closer to the water surface, it would make it too bright and much too hot. In fact, a fan needs to be cooling the water surface at all times to stabilize the temp between 78-79 degrees. This does cause rapid evaporation, which requires the setup to include an ATO.

Though if you look at the existing AP 24 150W HQI's, they are very close to the surface. I spent the greater part of this morning looking at examples on various forums and websites, and it does not seem as if additional mods or fans are necessary. (On the other hand, the light that comes with that model has a fan it looks like).

Yes, I've noticed the same. It's probably due to the lesser water volume of a BC14, which makes the tank so sensitive to outside temp changes. Once I upgrade this tank to an 18" high 25G cube, the light will be VERY close to the surface.

I actually received my ADA 24"x12"x18" yesterday but it has an undesirable scratch on the front face. I hope to get a cube replacement soon. I'll post pics as soon as I make the switch.

Very true; that must be the reason.. between posts I forgot that it was a 14g you have and for some reason I suddenly thought it was a 25g.

...looking forward to seeing the pics when you make the switch.

Unless I missed it..what MH bulb are you using? I like the color of that 20k.

I use the Coralife HQI bulb. Actually, I was expecting more blue tones from the 20k bulb, so I've been exploring other solutions for actinic lights. I'd like to use them IN ADDITION to my coralife hang-on. Any ideas/suggestions?

Saw tiny flatworms crawling up the glass yesterday, and I was able to siphon few of them out. Then today I noticed a few on my new acropora! Dosed my tank with 15 drops of FW Exit that I just happened to have in case of an emergency like this. Literally 2 minutes after dosing and I see those little buggers die on site, while all of my other corals and fish acted completely normal. Did a 30% water change after an hour and replaced my carbons. Hopefully, they're all dead!@#! Do yourself a favor and keep some of this liquid poison handy at all times.

NOTE: Two bristle worms died from the FW Exit. Makes sense, considering they are worms just the same. I read that these things can become a nuisance as they become large, so I suppose I also got rid of a future threat.
