Dark spot on new candy cane

Overall it's health has been improving but this dark spot is still there, I'm just wondering if anyone could offer some insight as to if this is normal for some sort of injury or if I should be concerned or take action.

Thank you.

Looks like a general tissue injury/tear. Any update on how, and if things have improved or worsened at this time?
