will apex ever stop supporting classics?

thinking about pulling the trigger on a classic as it more in my budget (unless you want to offerr me a discount. lol )

one of my main concerns will Neptune ever stop supporting, making replacement parts and models that will work on it?

I dont what to get then all the fun mods then be forced to rebuy in a few years.
thoughts thinking lot term here.

thanks for all the help.

I wouldn't be concerned at all. All the new modules they're making are compatible with the Classic and you can still by the classic directly from Apex today. I think you're good for a LONG time before you have to worry about "end of life" on the Classic.

Eventually, sure, but it's probably going to be a while. I would, however, consider how cost effective the Apex 2016 is. I don't remember what I paid for my Classic about 5-6 years ago, but I'd bet that it plus the cost of some of the modules I've bought that are now part of the 2016, would exceed the cost of just buying the 2016 model.

The Apex 2016 has a faster CPU, more memory, can do more in Fusion then you can with the Apex Classic apex (more features).

Put it this way they are just finally dropping support on their original aquacontrollers that came out over a decade ago.

Edit:
Which there will always be support for really in their community forums

In the video they did about the new Neptune Apex, they mentioned that they will NOT stop supporting the classic, and have no plans to stop.

Look, at some point support for everything stops. As the installed base dwindles, there is a business decision that gets made. Is that likely soon, no; but it will happen eventually.

I actually found a deal on the classic, but by the time I purchase the salinity and orp probe and corresponding module I would be really close to the price of the Apex 2016.

You would need to buy the salinity probe, orp probe, and the salinity module to make it comparable to the 2016, correct? Looks like the orp probe can plug directly into the second ph/orp port on the classic controller.

Hell, I've sent emails and they still have given me limited support on my ACIII pro as late as a week ago. I think you are GTG

If I were you, I'd get the new Apex. If the Trident does what it's expected to do, then it's a game changer, and as Vincent said, that means you need the new Apex. Furthermore, I suspect all new products moving forward will take advantage of the higher horsepower, which means they won't be compatible with the classic Apex. I wish Neptune could make all products compatible with the classic but with reduced functionality, but I guess that's not possible.

However, one must have the Apex 2016. I suppose one can't expect the Classic to do everything.

There's a difference between Neptune continuing to *support* the Classic versus making new product that can work with the Classic. The Classic can only do so much.

Correct, support is maintenance and repair, new modules are innovation.

Correct, support and backwards compatible are two different, but related, concepts.

They said at macna this year that all the big products coming out from now on will be 2016 Apex only. The little stuff like FMK and repackaging of the current stuff will work on classic but this is basically the beginning of the end for the classic.

The classic can still do all of the things today that it could do the day before MACNA. How is that the beginning of the end? The way I always think about tech is to buy based on what something can do TODAY, rather than any vague notions of future compatibility. I'd much rather future innovation not be constrained by legacy equipment limitations.

I'm using a ACIII pro at the moment with aquasurf. It does everything I want it to and then some.
