Reef Lighting
Lighting-
Years ago, I had a 8.5 foot long system (215 with a 90 on the same stand) and I used 3 x 400 watt MH over the 215 plus 1x 250 MH over the 90. All this supplemented with VHO's. The reflectors used were pretty cheap "spider-style" reflectors so I am not sure I was getting the most out of the lights. Never checked with a PAR meter. Acros grew extremely well and the colors were great. Certainly "old school" by many standards. I tried AI Sol's, Hydra's and Hydra 52's over my 150 and just never could get good color. Not saying it is not possible, I have seen some great LED tanks, but my skills may not be up to the task. I am going with a mixed set up this time, but still tweaking the final selection. First, I am going with much better reflectors. I will be using large Lumenbrights. I will probably use 250 watt bulbs, but also mix in some LED fixtures. To be continued...........
