Radion Par Chart Updated 2014 edition

I have updated my Par chart with the Gen 3 & Gen 3 Pros. I have also started a new component to the chart with Par loss over time since I wanted to see if my LEDS are beginning to lose their "sparkle" over time. Just a reminder I am not a scientific lab and just a hobbyist. I also upgrade to the Innovative Marine SR-120. Nice Tank, minimum complaints.

Do you have the same lenses on the Gen3's as the Gen 2? Bc I find it interesting that the pars are that much lower on new models vs older.

Thanks for the info! Very nice tank as well. Love the substrate. Where'd you get it from?

Hawaiian Black from CaribeSea.

I like it. I will say that this version is more uniform in terms of size of the grains. Back in the day it was all over the place with bigger grains. I do notice a couple more brown specks compared to the old version.

The Lens are the same between the Gen 3 & Gen 2's. Yeah I double checked those numbers to ensure they were correct.

You haven't had issues with it being "magnetic" have you?

No, I have been using Black Sand for 8-9 years but I also don't run my algae magnet through the sand.

Thanks for the info!

Are your PAR readings at 100% brightness of the Radion? Or ?

I just didn't see it documented anywhere.

Yes, the numbers are based off 100% intensity.

Great job!!!!!

What's your thoughts on the loss numbers? I've seen another them read stating some serious loss. What was the lighting schedule on the lights you measured the loss?

Thanks for your time

I really think that guy had a bad unit where he had those massive losses. There are a ton of variables that may decrease the lifespan of the Leds (heat, dead fan.etc). The gen 1 TIR & gen 2 I ran them at 70-90% for around 10 hours a day.

Cool thanks. I'd be lying if that thread didn't make me wonder about the lifespan of any led. It's nice to have some more experience on the topic. I wish I would have documented my numbers when I first got them.

Yeah I am nice to my radions (or try to be). I keep them well ventilated and make sure they are clean and not covered in salt creep. I went to my neighbor's once and his were caked in salt creep and his fans were struggling to breathe. I am happy I documented their initial pars so I can see how they do over time.

The loss could be the wiring and the power supply. Its not always the LEDs themselves though they could have a contributing factor.

I just wonder why the Gen2 Pro is stronger than the Gen3 pro by look at Par chart spectrum @ 14K, 18K and 20K. why?

Great info, thanks. Have you done any readings with the wide angle lenses?

I will need to build a chart but on initial readings the wide angle lens increase par on the fringes but you take a hit overall with lower par numbers.

Did Ecotech change the colour contributions for their preset spectrums?

From memory 20k used to use 21% white?
Now its 17% white on 20k?

That would explain small differences in par at presets other then 12k?

I assume that the gen2 pros readings were taken last year using the older presets?

Does anyone else remember the presets being tweaked by Ecotech?

Im so glad i found this thread, thx for the time and effort you've put into this! I have a few questions if you don't mind.

1. Are the par readings below/above water?
2. If they are below water, how high above is the light above the surface?

A request: is it possible to do a par reading at 50% and 75% max intensity say at a spectrum of 18K to see if the adjustment is indeed linear?

Comment: assuming the top chart is all leds at 100%, i would guess that would be a spectrum at 12k because the par readings are exactly the same as the bottom chart at 12K.
Notice also that the gen 3 pro is smoking hot as you go towards the white spectrum but as you go towards blue the gen 2 Pro becomes the hotter unit.

Thanks for this info very good. I currently have two Gen 3 Radion pros. Not being used for my next project. I do need a total of 3 to cover a 48x30x16 tank. Since it seems the gen 2 pro gives better par levels at 14k 18 and 20k do you think it would be a good idea to mix it up a bit and for the 3rd get a Gen 2 pro? If I do will they still connect with each other? Thanks in advance.
