What is this? Sponge?

Hi! Ive been keeping nano tanks for years now and have never encountered a pest like this in my tank. I found a few very old fourms with the same “thing” but no one knows what it is. Posting in hopes someone know what this is. Its all over my rocks and spreads fast.

Yes, it's sponge growth. If it bothers you it can be scrubbed and syphoned off during a water change.

Don't just let it be. It can actually grow out of control, invade your corals and suffocate them. There is a pygmy angel that eats it. I think it is a bicolor pygmy, but I cant recall exactly.

Although this may happen, I've never scrubbed or intentionally removed sponge in any of my tanks (some occasionally breaks off during routine maintenance), and I've never had sponge become a problem for any corals.

FWIW,
Kevin
