I had a cpr box years ago and didn't like the idea of having to keep a pump attached to it to restart the siphon when the power shut off. Since switching to a Lifereef overflow I haven't had any issues with the siphon restarting and don't have to worry about the extra pump to keep siphon.

i didn't like the idea of having to have an air pump attached to purge air from the overflow pipe. just seemed like something that could easily go wrong.

i've had two eshoppes overflow boxes. i was happy with the first one, but wanted a large one to do more flow and with two overflow tubes and two drains to promote some redundancy. i just set it up last night, so far so good.

the original one i had on the tank worked flawlessly for about 18 months though.

I use a CPR CS50 and I have had no issues. Yes it needs an aqualifter to RESTART the siphon. It will hold the siphon if the pump stops working. I test this every week just to make sure it works. My pump has stopped working twice in a year. I needed to run it through hot water and vinegar to clean it out.
