Better planned well in advance and make changes rather than rush into a build and regret later I think u're on the right track.

Your right Ed, we are trying to look at every angle right now, the only thing that I didn't plan in the budget was upgrading the electrical panel and I worried about the plumbing, I don't think I gave myself enough $$$$ there also.

The air handler we knew needed to be upgraded, but we are trying too hold off 1 more year on that!

Looks like I need to work more to pay for all of this

FINALLY!
we got a reasonable bid on our fish room, after ARC and permitting (this should take about 3-4 weeks), then we start our build on the room,, we already know what tank and equipment we are buying.
LET THE FUN BEGIN!!!!!

After talking to some of our local reefers about a CLS, I'm not sure on what to do. I like the idea of a CLS for the flow and the ability to do a water change out. Any suggestion on a easier way to do the water change outs?

Since we are going to build the fish room we want to automate the system as much as possible.

OK, it has taken a long time to begin this adventure
The plans for the new fish room will be drawn up next week, then we have to have our ARC approve the room addition ( which should not be a problem) and then the drawing go to permitting for approval. I'm guessing all this will take about 3 weeks.

I will order the new tank, stand which will be steel and powder coated and sump next week.

Our LFS has some great rock cooking now.

After the new room gets closed in, We will set up the new tank to start cycling.

I will be going bare bottom on the new system.

I know I will not be able to add my fish (only 12 ) right away,
I plan on using as much sand from exsiting system for the refugium, and I will use appx. 75 gals.
of water from my exsiting tank to jump stat the cycling process.
I also plan on using my exsiting rock.

I know, 75 gallons of water is not a lot on a 375 gallon system.

My question for today is: how soon will I be able to add the corals?

CAD drawings are now being made to send to our ARC committee and then to the county.

Looks like we should break ground in about 2-3 weeks.

I have not ordered the tank or stand yet in fear of our ARC approval.
It should't be a problem

Ed said just be patience, I don't want to have a tank that size just sitting around.

Can't wait to hear more...

I'm watching this one closely. Our tank should be done by months end. We're putting in a closed loop from OM.

Who is building your tank?

Dave

Miracles Aquariums in Toronto Canada is building ours. Our original plan for a big tank was squashed when AFY went bankrupt with a rather large sum of our money.....but we finally got over that and went with this other builder.

Make sure you take plenty of pics as your construction proceeds.
You've got quite the project started!!

Best wshes

Dave,
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss!
also I'm truly glad that one detrimental experience didn't stop the passion you have for your tank.

After breaking ground, I went back to the drawing board on the lay out of the fish room with the GC. The room looked different on paper than the actual size of the room. The room will stay the same size, (thank goodness $$$$$) We are going to install a pocket door instead of a regular door to help save a little space. We are not going with a counter top along the entire north wall now, the north wall will have a sink and 2 separate counter tops. So we have appx. 5-1/2' of space to work in behind the tank. We also decided to move one of the sinks to the west wall of the room since we will now have a pocket door and put the counter top along the entire west wall. The east wall will have a set of french doors so we can bring in the tank, stand and any other big equipment as needed.
