Project 1 smalish 1100 gallon fish only with life rock

OK here it goes. A few month ago I set up my own little aquarium design business up in Pattaya (Thailand) (hope the LINK to my website is allowed? www.aquaticaservices.com) and have been setting up the regular 100-400 gallon systems till I came across my next client lol.
Well lets say he is raising the bar quit a bit he is actually raising my bar sky high lol but I like it ........
Anyway here is the first project and remember the tittle small L118" x W39.3" x H59" = 1100gallon fish only with life rock aquarium (project 2 is a 197"x31.5"x79" aquarium and project 3 is a conversion of a 4700gallon swimming pool into a reef) thus the again this project is the smallest of them all for this client. So stay tuned for all those projects coming your way. Hope you guys can get me as much advice and direction as possible and let me all know on what you think on how I will be taking on these challenges for sure.

ps the initial thread for the swimming pool conversion was here allready but will start a new one as we now got a a different swimming pool to work with (he has 7 swimming pools in his complex by the way lol) as he now did like the idea with some adjustments though but in a different spot and different pool

Tank will be made with 1.5" (36mm) laminated tempered glass

1 Skimmer 3 x BPA reef octopus REGA 300int (750gl rated)
2 lights 8 AI Hydra 52 modules driven by AI director
3 return pumps 4 x Jebao jecod DCT-12000
4 wave system 6 x Jebao RW15 (3 on each side)
5 temp control custom build 15000BTU system.

aquarium will mainly be set up as a fish only tank with life rock though will hold large zonathid colonies, some large bubble tips and a garden set up for LTA anemones.

11 x pink anthias

loads of snails of all kind and some blue and haloween red legged hermits

Can you access the tank from the back? Can you get those lights completely out of the way? You are going to have a devilish time trying to reach the bottom for maintenance with so narrow a tank (been there, done that). The more room you have to get into the tank the better.

not sure but is 40" considered narrow?
the lighting will be attached to winches and can be pulled up to the ceiling so there should be space for someone to enter the tank if needed.

I think Dave meant if a fish dies or a rock falls you will have to get in the tank to resolve the issue and 40" seems big now until you get in and out of the tank a couple of times

Yep, to get down to the bottom of a 60" tall tank you are going to need to be directly over it. No possibility of approaching from the side of the tank. You must be hovering right over top, even with long-reaching tools.

Measure the length of your arm from armpit to fingertip to get an idea of how much reach you don't have.

looks good, i personally prefer wide tanks to tall ones, but from what i have heard it is pretty cool to watch the fish swim upward as well…


dear god is tank 2 going to be 79" tall? and only 31 wide? or are those numbers flipped?

i think once the CBS find the cleaner shrimp they will kill and eat them…might be okay with the gold species, but the blues will for sure kill and conquer

little question about the lighting though for the experts.
I was thinking on sticking with the 8 AI hydra 52 lights over this sytem
no major corals will be in the system anyway with some larger bubble corals only and a small section of LTA anemones to become a almost fish only tank.
So would those 8 modules supply enough lighting you guys think?

You will have some shadowing at the ends. It's 118" long. I'd do 2 more. Obviously money is not an issue. So better do it and see than to regret afterwards

I recommend using thicker glass, especially for such a high tank. The pressure is going to be massive.

The glass will be laminated safety glass and will have a 7 year warrenty on it by the builder so not too worried about it for now.
