You can probably keep the condy for 6-8 months. I kept mine about 6 months in a 45G til it got almost size of a basketball. Course I fed it about 3xw and that may have contributed to it growing so fast. Wanted to keep it well fed to keep it happy!
Wish I could have ordered more TBS rock. In the process now of setting up a 30G cube. Ordered Fiji rock from MD Live. They advertise Nano rock 3-11" size and I ordered 22#. Got 2 rocks about 3" each and a boulder. Have already tried busting it up with hammer/chisel but it is too dense for me. Guess husband will have to tackle it tonight. Needless to say I am not happy! |

My condy got too big for my 75 IMO and it has been gone for months now. The only thing is once they get established well they may be a pain to get out.
My next plan of attack is to take a razor to my flower because I don't know any other way to get at it.

I am well aware that crabs are bad. Ive probably said it like 20 times myself int his thread. Just sharing my experience with the purple stone crab. He has been very destructive. From ripping chunks off the rocks, to terroizing my smalller crabs, to even eatting a serpent star whos tentacles measured several inches in length.

So if I receive a gift of a condi, I shouldn't put it in my tank?

I know it may be unethical but if it is a pest in a tank you could inject it with joes juice.

You could always take it to the LFS. They may not give you anything for it but they would probably take it.

Yep, I asked Richard not to send me any anemones and I got a free brain coral instead Too bad the brain corals were killed by the red tide, it will take them a while to repopulate.

I'm so PI$$ED off right now. I came home to find that my Longnose Hawkfish went carpet surfing and I never even got a chance to take a picture of him sitting in any of my Monti Caps.

55 gallon w/ overflow
20 gallon sump/ refugium w/ light 6x65 watt power compact lights 2 20k actincs, 2 10k, 2 50/50 w/ 8 moonlights coralife super skimmer 65 825 gph flow 110 lbs LR (TBS rock) 10 lbs precured LFS rock : 55 lbs LS (TBS Sand) 20 lbs precured LS We received our first part of the package on May 6th. Never went over .50 ammonia and was at 0 on the 12th. (Tank had already been cycled with 10 lbs of LFS rock for over an 8 week period. Ammonia went well above 8.0 in one day with that rock) Emailed Richard on the 12th and he promptly sent my second half the same day. Talk about service!! We want to thank Richard for the extra goodies he added into the shipping boxes. We are still in awe of all the living creatures we are finding each day. I will be posting more pics as the tank matures. But I thought you might like to see a nice lil hitchhiker that was found inside one of the rocks. Can anyone Identify?? Sorry I couldn't get a picture of his/her friends (2 pistol shrimp) that live in the same hole. Nor could I get a clear picture of the 2 mantis that are soo darn shy. But this is their home. |

Brian - Sorry to hear about the hawkfish. I have one but have never seen him do anything like that.
Alatriel - I think someone else got one of those too but I don't remember the name of it.

annetate- I was very surprised to find a hitchhiking fish(es)
krajacich- Wow you are fast. I checked TBS site but I guess I missed that . Now I just have to figure out what it eats. I do believe that there are two of them hiding out in the rock. I've only positively seen the one pictured, but as I was looking at their hole I noticed another fin. Maybe? |

What the ??????
OK. I never thought I'd see this or that it was even possible, but one of my coral frags fell off the rock and the current pushed it into the Flower Anemone. It even had some puttty and rock attached to it. The anemone ate it! I'm a bit upset about this one as well now as it wasn't a cheap piece. Flash Gordan monti lives no more. This just isn't my week.

Brian,
Sorry about the losses I was PI$$ED when I lost my clownfish to jumping. I went to HD and bought a $1.50 piece of gutter guard and the back of my tank is now 90% covered, yet still lets hot air out. Could that work in your case, or do you have an open top? For those of you that don't follow my thread regularly and are picture deprived, I just posted about a dozen pictures in the thread: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...&pagenumber=20 Brian

Thanks Brian. I have an open top so the gutter guard wouldn't help too much.
