Question How to stop bubbling in overflow return line?

Is there anyway to stop the return line from bubbling in the sump water?

some people use a sock, that is made for the end of the drain line.

If air is going down the tube it's going to bubble.

The air is hard to stop
but the bubbles can be
controlled with a sock.
LOL

i already have a sock, I know there is a way to stop it, with like a T and a line that goes up and pulls in air. I am just not 100% sure.

The point isn't to control bubbles going into the sump. I am trying to control the return line from bubbling, understand?

I had the same with my durso drain, drilling a bigger hole on the top of the durso and adjusting the height o' so slightly worked wonders for me.

if i slow down the drain line with a ball valve it helps some but the problem is I don't want to slow it down.

Try this at the bottom of your return to the sump...It completely silenced my return and it's really easy to do using PVC parts. It doesn't even have to be glued....

the problem in the return from the sump. I have no idea what to do as i am new and haven't experienced any problems of that sort. Is the pump sucking in any air? or maybe there is a leak in your return line?

I get what you mean, when you restart your return pump, it dumps back some air right?

I have the same issue but tht{s due to the syphon being interrupted from the return line, remember that there has to be a little hole drilled on top of the return line which main purpose is to suck air and break the syphon/gravity efect otherwise you will have a nice wet floor and an empty main tank possibly, depending on the depht of the return nozzle.

I don´t know if there¨s really something to prevent those bubles, it¨s just air that has to be expelled somehow since the return line is empty from the sump/wet-dry´s water level.

I guess you just have to get used to it

I disagree...IMO, you don't have to get used to noise. There's always a way to stop the noise in every and any reef configuration...It's just a matter of figuring out which method will work for your setup. It's usually a simple fix once you've isolated the problem.

this looks it would most likely work. I am going to get the stuff and try it out.

Is the bubbles coming out of the line? or air being sucked down from the surface.
If the bubbles come from the return line with bubbles from the sump water then you have too much flow sucking bubbles from the sump and not letting them come to the top in the sump to settle out. Need to put a smaller return pump or a ball valve to slow the water down going back to the tank. You do not need alot of flow from tank to sump and back. I had a 9.5 Mag pump on my 75 gal tank and replaced it with a 3 mag pump and cut out 95 percent of bubbles.

It does help but does not eliminate the bubbles.

If this is your setup I see why the baffles and pump and pushing the bublbes down throw the baffles not letting them have time to stop at the top .
If you but a 100 micon filter sock on the returns no bubbles..
As I said I put a mag 3 on my 75gal after I read The Reef Aquarium by Delbeek and Sprung that slow flow for sump and more flow with power heads in tank for flow.
