Gary,
Your blue S. Haddoni in a BB tank? For how long? I am thinking of doing a BB tank for the anemones but am not sure the long term effect on this species.
Thanks |

The foot of the anemone is under that large rock on the left side. So is the foot of a LTA Macrodactyla doreensis- another sand dwelling species.
I still have a slight dusting of sand on the bottom even though I removed my DSB in 2005. (Sand keeps seeping out from under the rocks.) I've had the Haddon's for 3+ years and the LTA for 9 years.

The brown coral on right side, bottom half, is it an anemone? Sacrophyton? Beautiful tank, and thanks for sharing.

Gary,
Gorgeous tank, what has been the growth rate of your Haddon's carpet in the last 3 years? I ask because I picked up a baby blue haddon's carpet and I only have it 3 days and it's doing great. Just wanting to learn more. Thanks, Mike G P.S Do you think I'll have any luck that my two black variant ocelleris will host this carpet? If so how long of a wait? |

Conversely, cutting back on feedings and/or poor lighting can result in a loss of body mass. I've seen ocellaris host with Haddon's anemone. I've also seen Haddon's anemone reject ocellaris (personal experience). Good luck with the pairing.

Depends on the species. S. haddoni will likely stay on the bottom, prefering a sandy substrate (except for juveniles which seem to prefer rock). S. gigantea seem to prefer rock, but seem to stay near the rock/sand interface.
I don't know about S. mertensii but I think they tend to climb a little bit. Someone with this species will be able to comment more.

I alternate between shrimp, scallops and silversides. Both my carpets and my Rose eat them all.

My green S. ????, not sure what kind! Ordered from Fish Mart Inc. on July 7th 2005, been in my 30g ever since.
Diet consists of krill, silversides, and squid. Fed twice a week, rotating between the 3 foods every week. It has also eaten my poor little Arc Eye hawkfish and numerous hermits/snails. |

Funny you should mention the Arc Eye hawkfish, cause I had mine for a long time, then suddenly he disappeared. I think the AEH like to perch themselves on rocks/objects and as a result are easy targets for the carpet.

nice pic, cat.
For everyone asking about the care of carpet anemones: first identify the species you are discussing. Use the anemone FAQ at the top of this forum if necessary. Husbandry for the different species of carpet anemone varies. Here's a pic of my blue Haddon's anemone showing the substantial column (which is typical of the species) inflated a bit.

Hi, sirreal63. It appears that you have the large morph of S. tapetum. I have a couple specimens of the same color morph (as well as some other color variations).

I have not been able to discover anything about this variety. Have any helpful links?

No links- sorry. Sprung mentions that there is a large morph of S. tapetum (somewhere). There is a pic of a large morph in his book, "Invertebrates- A Quick Reference Guide".
Hopefully, I'll have another camera soon and I'll be sharing some new pictures with everyone.

That would be great. Google didn't turn up much either. It is a beautiful specimen.
