Filtration question
Ive seen some discussions regarding sumps that suggest having a dsb and live rock in your sump is all you need. So my question is, if I have a dsb and live rock in my display tank with lots of flow and a cuc, why do I need a sump? Do I need any filtration? Is a filter sock what would be the difference maker here? Im sure the extra rock and sand bed help, but I'm talking in theory here. Thanks

Besides having the extra live rock and an area to grow some macro algea....its a place where you can put a skimmer, heaters, and other stuff. I have a 10 gallon n yes I still have a sump...do I need it...no but help hide my heater n skimmer

I created a spot for macro with a hob filter. It is clear, I stuffed a bunch of chaeto in it. I've had it about two weeks and the chaeto seems to be doing well with just some sunlight and the tank lighting. I guess I'm trying to discover if with enough live rock and flow if a system would be pretty self sustainable (with water changes of course)
