Plywood Sump / Fuge

Hey guys I have been doing alot of research on reefing and see alot of people making plywood tanks. What do you think about a plywood sump? I bought a 20 Long tank to make a sump with but the glass shops by me all want like 140 to cut 4 baffles for me. I was thinking about building it out of plywood and covering it with pond epoxy then I can make it custom shape and size. Has anyone done this before looking for pros and cons.

Thanks
Dan

Save yourself the hassle, and find some cheaper glass places.

Or find a free bad/leaking tank, and salvage the glass.

I'm building a sump right now from a leaking 40B I got for free.

Do you have a Lowes close by, they cut all their glass, plexi, polycarbonate etc for free.

I built a plywood sump. It's fine. Just don't use pond liner - use 2 part epoxy and seal it all the way.

Those are fine for sump baffles. You can even double up the glass if you want it to be thicker. Just file the edges down or be careful when messing around in the sump as they are sharp and will cut.

I've used the single strength glass (their standard thin glass) as baffles before without any issues. You could even silicone two pieces together to double the baffle thickness if you are concerned, but I really don't think you need to bother. Just go easy when doing any sump maintenance & you shouldn't have any probs. HTH
