Water haze from dosing vodka
I've been battling nitrates for a few weeks. I had attempted dosing vodka a month ago but by the 2nd day the water became cloudy. Fish and corals were both doing ok but I stopped because I have not read where anyone else has had this problem. I'd like to attempt it again and was wondering if anyone else had a haze or cloudiness in the water after just starting to dose. If so what did you do?
I've also devised a plan to make an algae scrubber in the event the carbon dosing just won't work on my tank. Nitrates are currently at 20ppm. They were at 40 ppm but I replaced all the sand and bought a better skimmer not to mention massive water changes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Depending on how well you rinsed your sand will determine how cloudy the tank will get from just this alone. I'm willing to bet money that your sand swap is what is causing your prolonged hazy water.

I estimated the water volume of my 80 gallon w/ 30 gal refugium to be 68 gallons so I dosed .25 ml of vodka. I did 2 doses of .125 ml per day for 3 days. On day 3 I had haze. I stopped dosing on the advice of fellow reefers.
I had not begun replacing the sand at this point. I tried dosing vodka a couple of weeks before replacing sand.

I am not sure when you say haze does it mean the whole column of water or just the top. I used red sea algae management solution and works great. I had been fighting algae for a while and hardly use this for 4-5 times and you see it working. So 500 ml bottle should be enough. I do see a film at the water on the top which is probably the bacteria.

No it's the whole tank is hazy but it does clear up on it's own.

It’s your bacterial bloom. Get that skimmer running wet and check often.
