Awesome tank... I've read about LEDs and I studied them in my general engineering class and I like the fact that they're so efficient... Who knew you could keep SPS under them... hmmm.. I might have to look into these in the near future... after I get my MHs in.

If it was not for initial cost their sales would be through the roof.
Most reef seem to be at least 48 inches long and those units are costly. LED are now available for reading lamps etc . so the price can't stay up there |

Kinda skeptical about the lack of lighting between the light grids. I can see very little light getting to parts of the tank directly below the areas under the hood that don't have the leds.

Thats actually why I like it Freed. I have always fealth MH and flourecent bathe everything in a wash of light. I like the the idea of dark and light spots. IMO it compares much more favorably to an actual reef. You do have to be more careful about placement in an LED system though.

www.everything4saltwater.com -- has the best prices on solaris. The prices are dropping over time. I bought my 48" 20k in Feb. 2007 for over $2300 @ PA. Then I discoved everything4saltwater had the same unit for $1800 and as of today it's $1600. Sorry I don't have any pics to contribute, I've moved several times over the last year, therefore I don't have anything but cycling rock in the tank right now. As far as shimmer goes you do get the same effect as MH, the more surface water movement the more shimmer you get. I love mine and when I upgrade to 200g or more in a couple of years I'm going to buy another one!!!
