Cool! Looking forward to this getting set up.
Doesn't the Red Sea kit come with a 6 or 8 X t5 fixture? What is Blue Treasure salt? You won't be testing potassium?

Been using it for 2 years now and its fine. I will do an update on my old post - not like theres much to see. Testing Potassium and Strontium as well. Been dosing the DIY trace elements as well - concocted by myself. I will post up photos of it - It follows Balling closely. |

Sorry for the lack of update.
All the equipment and tank was wet and was about to start 2 months ago. What luck I have and disaster struck, the ground floor was flooded and now the house is under renovation mode. Tank is now empty of water and in waiting state. Hopefully February 2017 start. |

Was it the tank that caused the flood? Or a broken water pipe?

That's terrible! I've had a friend that had a house flood that way. I'm glad your getting everything back in order now! It's a long road to recover from something like that.

Quick update - 14 days cycle have finished on Sunday.
Diatoms was everywhere is how I know the cycle is done. Found out the nutrients level is off the chart. NO3 at 100ppm - hot pink colour on the salifert Nitrate test kit. Possible much higher reading. PO4 at 0.68ppm - Hanna Phosphate Checker. I took action to reduce it down. Hooked up on dosing pump. 1) Channel 1 dosing Vitaglow - vitamins 2) Channel 2 dosing Lanthanum Chloride - into the protein skimmer chamber Add bacteria that eats Nitrate - 20 grams. Fast Forward - Tuesday night nutrients test. NO3 at 0.5ppm PO4 at 0.07ppm The tank is ready for corals come Thursday - waiting for coral shipment. Before I put my corals in on Thursday, I will be dosing 50ml of straight solution of trace elements to buffer the water what the cycle process took out. |

Looking great Kevin, are you trying to keep everything so pastel or is it just the new system still bedding in mate. And please don't think i'm having a dig at you, it's just that you have the polar opposite in color saturation to me and i want to know the how and why

Thanks mate.
With 2 fish in the system right now. The nutrients are low holding very easily. But I am dosing coral nutrition back in to sustain the corals. End of the day is fast growing tank and colours right? |

At the end of the day all that matters is what gives you enjoyment from the hobby Kevin. Fast growing colorful SPS sounds pretty good to me mate

Once the IBC fish of 11 moved in, that will make 13 fish immediately. Then I will QT a few more new fish say 7 to make up the remainder. I think I will get 20 fish into the 5ft and there will be plenty of nutrients to make the coral colours saturate. The tank is 2 months old, as you can see the brown age stage starting to peel back, but I want them to stay a bit longer for the snails and pods population to gear up and breed. |

I am located in Inner city of Brisbane. The jebao return pump is silent and I can't hear it. Very good price and it has been reliable so far. If it last 2 years, that is all I am asking of it. Usually something better will come along. I have a spare things such as return pump on stand-by. Blue treasure sps salt I have been using since 2015 when it first came on the scene in Australia. Alot of reefer at the time was saying don't buy it because it is cheap quality Chinese made salt. Only 1 box that I had was bad in that time of 2 years, told my supplier and they send me new box free of charge. The magnesium is high on the 1450ppm but that is good in my eyes as I rarely dose magnesium solution... Its not like I do water change anyway, so it doesn't really matter. |

Oh nice, I'm building a new house with a new tank to go in it at Everton park. We sound a lot alike with our view of reefing. I like jebao and marine sources stuff everyone tells me to stay away from the Chinese equipment but when it hasn't failed me yet I keep doing it. Yeah that's true with the blue treasure, I went to Red Sea coral pro but the alk was just way too high! When my new tank is up and running I'm going back to collecting my own NSW again Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
