update

After not being able to sell this bad boy, i have decided to start stocking it with softies. it will have mostly zoas and mushrooms, maybe some acans.
I also plan to build a led setup for it. consisting of 24 leds from aquastyle

No edting:

the drains are vinyl but, i placed them inside of a pvc to keep them straight and to prevent algae growth.

I want to get a yash goby and pistol shrimp, plus some other cool inverts. only livestock in this tank at the moment is one
misbar true perc, one pj cardinal and one yelow tail damsel. I had a false perc that has been with me forever, however it got too aggressive with the true perc and i took it to my local store.

I'm thinking on doing a BA overflow on my tank. How is the flow on the 1/2 in drains?

for me it's perfect, i'm getting around 150 - 200gph, don't want to do more because i'm using a 10 gal sump. the system is quiete. only noise i get is from the mp10 and the skimmer. you only here them if the room is dead silent though. my holes are 3/4 reduce to 1/2 inch, i feel that unless you use a bigger sump, say like a 20 long or bigger 3/4 inch drains will take up too much room.

That is what I wanted to hear! I'm building a 35g cube and have a vortech for the powerhead and just want to use the sump for filtration. I believe there will be about 250gph moving through the system.

I'm looking for some guidance on a return pump for my 20 long. I'm going to run a 5.5 as the sump, and I'm looking for about 5x turnover. How was the rio working? I'm considering s mag2 or an eheim 1048. I'll be running a life reef overflow. Any advice?

Josh

honestly, i think you need to use a 10 gallon min, for a sump, better for skimmer options, also to have space for power out.
as for return pump, it was more than i needed, i even had a tee on it to feed the fuge.
if you plan to use the return as your only source of flow, you will need one inch drains, and in a 5 gal sump, you will have splashes and lots of salt creep.
