Nuisance algae again
Hi reefcentral! So I have a 55 gallon tank that's been running for about 3 months already. The rocks in my tank was cooking in my garage for about 5 months before it went into the display tank. It started getting nuisance algae so I took the rocks out to let cook in the dark again. After a few more weeks cooking I put the rocks back in my tank. Now hair algae is growing again. There is no livestock at the moment. What would you guys do in my situation? I'm running a mitras lx7 over the tank. I don't want to put anything in the tank till I have this algae under control.
Thanks guys! |

What are your parameters in the tank and what did you use to start the cycle?

Stop taking the rocks out..
Leave it and as stated post your water parameters.. specifically nitrates and phosphates. Its pretty darn normal to have algae in the first few months of a tank and it tends to pass on its own provided you keep up with water changes and keep your nitrates/phosphates low..

Deploy and ATS (algae turf scrubber) and never look back.
HERE is a link to a thread on RC about them.
