Chinachai,
Back in the day you use to run 140w x 4 (aquasun) + 110w x 3 (aquasun) + 110w x 3(454). I dont see those Aquasun VHO's anymore. Are you still using them. Sorry if i missed it in a previous thread |

Sir may I suggest something? I always look up to your build thread and follow some of the things that you do. But recently I had bad luck adding RARE angels in the tank even though they seems to be very healthy then velvet comes out the wipe the whole tank (my joculator angel did that recently). Why not remove all the fish in your tank since you don’t have that much at the moment? Go fallow for a 2 months to remove all the nasty’s in main tank and QT all of your fish with prazipo and cupramine 0.3 for angels and other copper sensitive fish and 0.5 for tangs.I believe the Nacrosis or the new addition brought some nasty's in your tank.I know is painful but after few very bad experience I think is the only way. Also make sure that no livestock contamination since ICK attached itself to pebbles, rocks, corals and equipment. That means all the corals have to be QT too on coral only tank for few weeks before added them in to the display.with that said ICK may still show up but they seems to be less deadly.
I am not the most patience reefer here but I am learning to take it slow. Your tank will still be stunning with just corals.

Sir the fish may appear great because they are able to fight off the velvet or other nastys in the tank but they still a carrier.
Sorry if I appear pushy but I thought I will try to make you think about it more. Thank you

Am I right that you are using the LEDs for balance and boost but not the primary lighting?? are you pleased with what those LED's are producing? what changes would you like if not?? I have a set-up similar to what I think you had which was m/h in a grid and the tube lights between and around the outer edge I know Peter made the leap right away but I can not afford to take such a risk without long-term data showing good coral growth over a longer period of time lastly, do you see yourself switching out the m/h lighting as well if so could you share your thoughts on what that might look like too. thank you for your time and knowledge. |

For me, I use LED just for the supplement. At the moment I don't have any plan to switch my main lighting from MH to LED. I am still very happy with the combination of MH+LED+VHO.

thanks for the reply Ching, I doubt very much that I know more about the LED lighting than you.
its so frustrating as I keep hearing great things from different sources then something very counter from the next. It would be a great savings to even replace the t-5 lighting but I am still so nervous about making a change from what I know and is working okay. |

i had the ecotech radian, now i just changed to Geniesmann Fixture t5 and MH. my opinion right now is mH show me some color that Led can't, it look coral more colorful. But the minus point is the heat, its too hot lol, before my led only make my chiller run once a day, not it runs 3 times a day. lol

I have AI Vega over my 180, and Orphek PR-156 over my 110. Neither give me the color and growth that we get in our MH systems. but I WANT LEDs to work. There are so many benefits to them over the MH, but they got to perform!! Chingchai, what would it take for you to feel comfortable with changing? Or is there no intention or desire to make that change? |

It doesn't mean LED is not good enough. But it is just my personal preference.

I would like to add...a tank of Chingchai's magnitude...taking into consideration especially the depth...I honestly don't think any LED system currently in the market can sustain SPS corals...
Tank dimensions play THE most important factor in selecting LED systems. LEDs definately work...if you choose the right unit for the right tank dimension.

Couldn't one just go with tighter lens on the LEDs to get deeper penetration though? I know they would need more LEDs most likely
