Never thought about doing that, I'd think they'd be no different than pairing two of the same since they are just slightly different looking.

Are your mandarin's both a male\female pair? Males will usually fight unless they are in a big tank. Yours might be large enough.

I'll say that I'm a big fan of your aquascaping! Looks incredible! And your fish assemblage is going to be top notch as well. Congrats on a great system.

Daniel.
With the space rules are flexible which makes it challenging sometimes. So far so good!

18 months Nitrate is at about .2-2 and nitrates stay around .02-.04. Currently just dose amino acids (acro power) throughout day.

Good, everyone is becoming more active. The two vlamingiee tangs are little guys but probably more active than the two blue throats (Male is much more active than female). Of those that have the Vlamingii how fast have you seen them grow? Mine are probably about 4 inches long right now. Have already said I'll reach out to Bill Wann and hand deliver once they start to get cramped, I want these guys to enjoy their life to it's fullest.

Wayne!!!

To expand on previous reply I'm probably going to get another large order of fish again soon and add them early November and continue to stock heavy through the rest of the year. Going to Vegas soon, want to set aside some "gambling" (Entertainment as I'll lose it all) and be around when I add the new fish for close observation without worrying about my house sitter.

Lastly, have our monthly INDMAS meeting at my house Saturday so maybe I can take some updated pics Sunday. When I have a lot of people over that are critics of a reef, it really puts extra bounce in my step to get things squared away.

I would caution against too many fish Dustin. I have a lot...lost count! My tangs have gotten really big in less than a year. Feeding time requires a wet suit since there's a lot of splashing going and I find frags that get knocked loose from one them banging into while feeding. I have looked at some of the best looking tanks they seem to not have a lot of fish in them. Just my observation and regret! Im trying to rehome some of my tangs but big tanks in my area not popular so no one really has a suitable home for any of them.

I hear you and definitely need to take caution, especially when they grow out and get more and more aggressive. I love a tank with a bunch of fish swimming around, someone on RC has major fish population and key outside of aggression seems to be maintaining that nutrient control. I have a very love/hate relationship with fish some times though, not everyone that comes over though appreciate the coral so having the wide variety of fish seems to keep them in awe.

I just need to win the lottery (Need to play first) and build a tank Bill Wann's size, until then I'll keep dreaming and try to keep my finger off the buy button on fish. Right now I'd say I'm still at a low bioload even when the fish grow out. Had been a good year since I added any fish and once I get done with another round of tangs, then a final round of some wrasses/anthias/etc I'll be done with additions. After that will just be adding some in for losses but knocking on wood have only lost one fish in past year that had settled in.

Of course that was my more expensive wrasses, a male flame. wrasse

I like variety when it comes to fish, that's part of my problem though.

In my experience, they are the piggiest of pigs and grow super fast, especially from a small size. I got one the size of a quarter and within 3 months it was about 4" and had outgrown the tankmates. It took about 1 year for it to outgrow my 180. I'd really like to have a bigger tank that would house them for a much longer time as they are just so pretty when they get big. Bill's tank definitely sounds like a great landing spot for those big guys! :0)

dustin very nice thread....unbelievable work!!

What brand of carbon insert are you using and what are you using it in....I'd like to look it up and buy one. Like idea of just changing out cartridge/insert for ease, etc

Thanks

Thumbs up

Wow, this tank is amazing! the biggest I have ever seen is the 800 gallon at the Stanley hotel in Estes Park, Colorado, and that was just a trout tank.

Corey, been a long time. Tank has been on cruise control and not getting a ton of attention these past few months. We brought in kiddo number 2 in October and on December 1st software company I work for got acquired. Needless to say I've been really busy.

Over past two months had a couple battles...

1) Cyano - Tried dosing peroxide but after thinking it had dissipated is appearing all in my grow out tank again. Tangs and CUC seem to keep it clear in DT. Thinking about using Vibrant but is going to take quite the dosage.
2) CR Effluent Pump Died - Cole parmer had died earlier this year, replaced with another chemical pump and it locked on me. While processing RMA for the chemical pump got another cole parmer control unit that was a brick and ripoff from Korea. Luckily after about a month of disputing finally got my few hundred back and the other pump is back and ca and alk are stable again
