New elegance showing skeleton

I just got this elegance coral from divers den. Should it grow back over the skeleton or is it pretty much doomed? I know the key to success with these corals is to start out with a healthy specimen. I figured divers den would be my best bet at getting a healthy one but I guess the shipping was rough on it.

I got one from DD as well... did the same thing and died a couple weeks later.. make sure you email them a pic so when if it lasts past the guarantee they should refund ya

Ugh yea I assume mine is probably toast too. I gave them a call this morning when i recieved it and they said since its not dead, i need to wait until it perishes to get my refund. Only problem with that is, the corals are known to slowly die over a month so i might be sol for a refund. I see these huge elegances thriving in people's tanks and it makes me jelous. Last one I tried looked good for a week and then went down hill. I figured if I went to dd I would have a better chance but I guess not.

I just sent them some pictures. The coral is in low light low flow right now. Anything else I can do to help it out? I gave it a dip in revive before I put it in the tank. Im at work right now but when I left my house the coral was still opening up. Ill post a pic of it when im home.I also ordered a nice acro but it came with rtn and it's pretty much fully dead now so I sent them a picture of that too.

Looks just like my last elegance that contracted ECS. It died and started falling apart within days of showing signs of the mouth inflated and short tentacles.

It hasn't had the swollen mouth since the day I put it in so it was probably from stress. I am more worried about the coral re growing over the dead skeleton. Is there a good chance of it healing if it doesn't have ecs? As you can see it looks pretty good in the picture. The tentacles have never really been stubby. They were about an inch the first day and now they're about 2 inches long.

Looks pretty good. Feed it daily I'll bet it comes back.

That plate looks kinda close to it I would try to move one or the other...

I placed the plate farther to the left about 6 inches away from the elegance. The elegance is now downstream from the plate while it was vice versa. The elegance shrunk yesterday after I did that and hasn't opened at all today. Could the elegance be getting stung from that far or is it probably just sick like most? Before I moved them the plate was curved up on the side like it was getting stung.

Well it looks better than when I left my house but it's not as big as before. I'll move the plate again and see.

I just fed it mysis and it took it pretty readily. Not that it really means anything because my last elegance that had ecs (short fat tentacles and expanded oral disc) ate up until the day it shriveled up and died. What's the best food to feed these guys?

I put the plate next to the rock work to hopefully block the stream from carrying the sting to the elegance. The elegance is closed up since I just fed it.

If it doesn't have ECS, it will recover and regrow over that bare skeleton. I feed mine mysis when I feed the rest of my coral once a week. The rest of the time it gets fed fish poop and light.

And this one I got from an LFS that sold it to another customer 3 years ago. he got it back when said customer broke down their tank. So I know this one won't get ECS!



They are indeed an absolutely beautiful coral, but it's a PITA when they die from something we can't help or fix once they get it.

Thats a nice elegance Homer. My coral looks like the second picture at night but I'm assuming that is normal. If this one doesn't make it I'm going to do the same as you and try to get one that has been established in the home aquarium. It doesn't look too bad today. I'm thinking maybe it was just over extended since it was new, and now that's it's acclimated it is just chilling at a normal size lol. I doubt it though, just hoping. Anyways here's some pics from just now

Last night around 730 I fed the elegance a peice of shrimp about 1/2"x1/4". I know that's kind of big but I didn't realize until the coral grabbed it. It's now 8 am so it's been 12 hours. The coral is opened up around the food and the shrimp is just sitting on its mouth. The one peice of shrimp was half way in one mouth and halfway in the other last night, so maybe it just couldn't eat it? Should I very gently pull it off the coral or let it blow off on its own? It seems odd that it's keeping a hold of this shrimp for 12 hours. It's almost like it keeps trying to eat it over and over and won't give up

I just looked closely and part of it is still in each mouth. Do you think that is making it so he can't eat it since each mouth is kind of working against then other?

It ended up dropping the food and I fed it a much smaller peice later that day. This time I saw the coral "swallow" it. Yet this morning I wake up and the food was laying next to the coral almost like it regurgitated it. Any ideas? Also on the side where the skeleton is showing, the tentacles are very small. Can anybody people give me an idea on what could cause that? Thank you

Can somebody please tell me if the small tentacles in the one area is something to worry about? I have been watching it closely everyday and I would like to know if it's no big deal so I can have some relief. I have also noticed black dots on some of the tentacles. I circled some in the one picture. Any idea what that is or is it just part of the coral. I really appreciate any ideas. I just want some opinions. Thanks!

Thank you I feel much better now haha. I saw one of the dots move. Maybe flatworms? They are very tiny ( the tip of a thumb tac). They are so tiny that I can't really describe any physical features. They just look like tiny black/brown dots. One is shaped a little different than others, ovalish with two spike looking things on the one end. The spikes look almost as if you took an oval, and than sliced a "n" shape put of the one end. Not sure if that makes any sense but it does in my head lol!
