New sand in my established tank?

If I put some new sand in my established tank to raise the sand bed a little will it harm anything, I'll add the sand in small amounts in different sections of the tank once a week. Will that be OK?

Depending on the type of sand it could cause a cycle, so small amounts are good. You must be extremely careful to not add much to the top of the current sand bed as it could end up suffocating the nitrifying bacteria within the current sand bed.
