The drill guide is a very good tool hard to mess up with this guide. I used a trickle with a hose, but for the other holes I made a plumbers putty ring and placed under the base so it created a seal and the water( most of it) stayed inside, worked well.

Pump & Overflow
Can you share with me on how the over flow or Herbie system works? Sorry for the newb question, I looked it up and seen the photos you posted but I still do not exactly understand how it works.
Also how are your returns going to be set up? All out of one over flow? Lastly I am waiting on my 300 DD to be delivered and working on selecting a return pump, I was thinking of the Red Dragon 3 Speedy pump so I could use it with my Apex system, however the Hammer Head Gold offers more GPH and less expensive. |

Another great build, I will be following along as I am setting up a 300 also. Not to hijack your thread, but mustang67, I'm not sure what your intended setup is, but I have a single reeflo dart on my 300. It is way more flow then I need for a return pump, i seriously have it gated down prolly more then halfway.. That being said I have second one to feed my other tanks and reactors. If your trying to get one pump for everything I'm not sure hopefully someone else can answer. The dart is a beast though, a hammerhead would be way too intense if you are using a detonated return pump.

here is a link that really easy to understand. http://gmacreef.com/herbie-dual-overflows/ & http://gmacreef.com The Hammerhead on a plumbing Manifold( 4 total water outputs with valves) puts the power and low wattage of the pump to good use. The break down is as follows: Barracuda/Hammerhead volume at my height les head loss and friction= 3200 gph aprox. returns to tank= 1500 Chiller = 500 gph ( just a back up) UV and Ozone reactor = 700 gph 2x reactors = 400 gph total average: 3100 gph giv or take, and Im using the cuda impeller , If I need more I can swap it out and add the Hammerhead.

With the 300 set up stock, each corner overflow will drain 700gph for a total of 1400gph. I would imagine after going with your intended drain setup you will need to be returning a bit more than 1500gph.

. The diagram helped a lot. Being that both your over flows are drains where are your returns going? Did you drill or have a 3rd hole in your over flow boxes? |

Are you going to use the R/O 5000. Were you using it on your previous tank.

They are just hanging off the rear a 1.5" T reduced to 2x 1" on elbows. One in each corner right next to the cornerflos.

I really like your aquascaping so far, it leaves plenty of room to grow. A lot of guys jam pack there display full of rock and it just looks cluttered.. Also you won't lose frags as easy, they always seem to drop in a place you can't get to without rearranging.

My two favorite photos from this thread are below. Isn’t that sad, there is a pic of a women presumably only wearing plastic dip, and I pick plumbing and rock-work. Honestly I love the clean lines in the plumbing. I starved for this in my build, and on the few pieces that are not in line drive me nuts. Funny because no one ever looks at that, but bothers me. Also the cove you have created with the rock is awesome. I am excited to see the rest of your plans.
I like your style.

Thanks for the kind words bpcardona,
On this build I wanted a cleaner look with my plumbing and decided to not cut any corners lots of unions and 45`s I wanted the least amount of friction and loss. I can't wait to get it up and running.

The filter sock holder I made wasn't the best and it cracked, So I called my buddy Jean Francois at Reef Concept here in Laval to help me out since this guy does incredible work .
I will post picks of his work when I get it. They have there 750 Gallon L shape build on RC its crazy professional and he made almost everything himself even the skimmer . here is a link: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...698691&page=27
