Flame Angel - Gill Spike
Hoping to get some advice recently noticed that my beautiful flame angel had like a weird white growth near his Gill when I took him out of the water I realised that it was his gill spike is this something that can be cut off or removed or be left as he is
He currently is in a quarantine tank happy and healthy strong appetite and no signs of any disease at this stage so it was about a week away from going into my display tank Sent from my SM-N975F using Tapatalk |

Why would you want to cut off his spike?

Your Flame Angel is Ok. Keep up the good food and try to put it fat, I have a flame angel for 3 years and I can tell you that it's an excellent fish

All angels have the gill spike. It's totally normal.

I am not convince that the OP does not know that the spikes are normal for Flame angels. He can see that there are multiple spikes and this is the same on both side of the Gil plate. Yes think he asked if he. An safely remove them. , knowing that it is normal.

The white might be exposed bone. This can be caused by catching fish with nets.
I would certainly strongly advise against cutting the spine off. It's kind of a status or rank symbol for angel fish. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
