I loved the fish room tour! All of your tanks look fantastic! Nicely done.

Action shot of my weekly maintenance protocol in mid December.

And some top down shots just to show a different angle:

Great setup - really like keeping both planted and reef and yours both visible but separate rooms.

I think I see a seahorse in there? Has it lasted? How long have you had?

Is the hawkfish showing any aggression to other fish or the blood fire shrimps?

Thanks!! The seahorse lasted about 6-mo, feeding was the main issue as despite doing daily spot feeding of frozen mysis / brine (which he would eat aggressively) overall there was just too much competition for food and normally food would get stolen before he could suck it up. He slowly dwindled away despite my best efforts.

The hawkfish is very peaceful, never bothers any fish or shrimp. It is a picky eater, however, and I never see it eat pellet food only frozen.

Well March 7 was a year and a month since this tank got wet, and it's still chugging along. It's really been uneventful since last May. I do a large water change every other month or so and otherwise just clean the glass, change out GFO media, and swap filter socks. I did add a carbon reactor as well, and reorganized some equipment in the cabinet, but no livestock additions.

Wow great tanks...love the planted. So you obviously clean the back glass often, but do you also clean the overflow? How do you do that without scratching it?

Thanks!! Yes, I clean the back glass and overflow every other time I clean the front 3 glass. I use generic brand magic erasers (melamine foam) on the whole tank including the overflow. For coraline buildup on the overflow I use a plastic algae scraper instead of a metal one to prevent scratches.

The planted small planted tanks have gone through some iterations but the big one is still the original concept.

Betta tank (UNS 5N):

New UNS 45S that replaced the old 3N:

And finally the big one, UNS 90P:

Wow, I love it that you have so many tanks AND they all look so beautiful and well kept! How do you find time for maintenance??

Thank you! I have developed an effective and efficient methodology over the decade I've been doing this and it honestly doesn't take that much time. Or maybe my definition of "not much time" is just vastly different than the average person, haha. Plus I enjoy working on them so I don't really consider it "work" or "the bad part" of having aquariums.

I'd say over the course of an average week it's maybe 2-3hrs of maintenance.

2 to 3 hrs of maintenance isn't bad at all. Just read your whole thread and realized that you had/have angels in there. Have you noticed them bothering any coral? Im guessing they are not as likely to pick on coral in a softy dominated tank.

Ah ha. Looks who's back! You might remember me from the nano forum days. I used a lot from your tank build for my nano at the time. Glad to see that you're back!

Yep, I've got two dwarf angels, a flameback and a flame. I've had both for many years in previous tanks. I honestly haven't had many problems with them nipping, though I do think they may have got at some of the LPS I've put in the current tank.

Hey man long time no talk!! I never technically got out as I've had a tank running non-stop for the past 10yrs, but yeah the new build is on a different level. The old 30g went through some rough times after Hurricane Harvey and some other events but it wasn't broken down until the new tank was setup and most of the livestock was transferred over to the new system!

Finally got around to a water change, it's been about 3mo since the last. The tank has really just been chugging along effortlessly. I have been toying with the idea of adding on the MP10's I have sitting in my "fish closet" and even possibly adding some new corals. But I kind of like the homeostasis that has been achieved at the moment, it's just working with very little interference from me other than feedings.

Well, it's been another 3mo and just did another water change. I'm really liking this quarterly interval! Nothing has changed in the tank, it's just chugging along.

I've been spending most of my time experimenting with my planted tanks. The original dichotomy concept for these tanks is always evolving
