Purple Firefish are pretty common, any online vendor has them.

Trying to find a Helfrichi, or a pair of Helfrichi you will need to find a higher end vendor.

Hi o2manyfish,

I'm looking for exquisite firefish which looks similar to purple firefish but is a different species.

That's going to be a difficult fish to find. Purple firefish are relatively inexpensive and plentiful. There are not a lot of collectors in the Maldives, and for most importers, there isn't much demand for the such a similar fish at such a more expensive cost. And keeping these separate when you have a couple of hundred similar fish in stock is not easy to do.

I would trust Liveaquaria with this choice. But finding another vendor who would specifically have the correct fish you are looking for won't be easy.

Hi Dave,

I do understand that it's not going to be an easy fish to find, just wanted to see if anyone else is interested in this species.

Thanks for your replies.

Maldives fish are quite common in Europe - De Jong Marinelife has "Maldives decoras" in stock. Maybe see if your LFS would be willing to order a shipment from there.

De Jong also has right now also Amphiprion chrysogaster , Calloplesiops argus, Gramma dejongi and other rare fish in stock.

Just checked and Blue Zoo has them as well for a quite reasonable price: https://www.bluezooaquatics.com/prod...id=690&cid=283

They list them as Nemateleotris decora, but the origin is given as Maldives so they must be Nemateleotris exquisita.

$650 ($1300 retail) for a fish that likes to carpet surf and otherwise only lives about 3 years???

Then I rather go with an ocellaris or percula. $40 to $60 for a pair and with good care they easily last a quarter century - way more bang for the buck

If LA has them in stock any retail store is likely able to get them. They just have to be willing to buy from Quality Marine. In other words, they're going to have to place a full order of fish.........I don't know how many boxes that is.
