sad to report that i lost my male filefish (Fry) while on vacation last week.
i'm gutted, but the female still seems OK. i didn't notice anything different about the male before i left, and i was only gone like a day and a half. hopefully the female (Leela) isn't going anywhere any time soon, these fish are the only reason i'm still in the hobby. it's sad, but at over 4 years and multiple successful spawns, i think i accomplished my goal of having a thriving pair of OSFF in my home aquarium.

Thats a bummer, did you have anyone feeding while you were away?

thanks guys. yeah we have a pet sitter that stays with the dogs. i also have an auto feeder on the tank that i hook up for when i go away. so they typically get one feeding of shrimp a day from the house sitter, and a couple small disbursements of flakes from the auto feeder

So guess who decided to show back up today when I was getting ready to clean the tank. I almost fell over when he cruis d around the corner. He looks painfully thin, but he did take myses shrimp before vanishing behind the rocks with the female. I'm astounded.
It's been almost two weeks since the last time I saw him.

Weird stuff. He always bullied the female, now she's bullying him. Debating whether I should try to remove one or the other to get the male fed. I'm just absolutely shocked. I can't believe he's still alive.
He's eating enthusiastically. So that gives me hope that if she eases up on him, that he can bounce back

Confirmed he's dead now. Was trying to remove the female from the tank to try to entice him out and found him stuck to the intake on my closed loop. I'm gutted.
