Are you skimming and do you use carbon while doing this? I just started 2 days ago, probably too late for my zoos. 2 little heads left out of 50.

I still run Purigen but dose as far away from it as possible. I have my skimmer cup as high as possible on my HOB skimmer & the tube as low as it will go on my in sump skimmer. Looks like I won't have to do the mesh mod on it after all!

Buuuut I found a big ugly worm which may or may not be my problem? theres a pic in the "other invertabrate" forum if anyone wants to take a stab at what it is.. haha

Told ya! VC seems to do a lot of good things for your tank but I don't think it's gonna get rid of that worm for you.

Has there been any discussion on the reaction of Vodka and vit C used together? I'm wondering if you dose one or the other, but never both...
I'm on the SPS forum and they dose Vodka to reduce their P04 and Nitrates. |

Since dosing VC, my nitrate is barely detectable, even though I have a lot of fish & feed heavily. Vodka isn't allowed in this house anyway.

LOL yea wouldn't that be nice... it's probably just aiding it in growing bigger so it can eventually crawl out and get us all while we're sleeping!

Iherb.com. Look for Sodium Ascorbate powder.

Capsules usually contain slow-dissolving, time-relased product. Better to use the pure, buffered C, like Engine 7 recommended

I have stopped with the Vit C dosing. I'm curious to see if things stay "good" as I didn't have any major problem zoas at the time of starting. My nuisance algae did disappear, perhaps due to a nitrate reduction that Puffer has seen. I'm just curious to see if things (algae wise) get worse again or stay the same, and if the zoas that have looked moderately more vibrant and open stay that way.

I stopped my vita c and immediately had algae blooms. This could also be from feeding more as I added a fish. I'll let you know if it disappears again when I start dosing C again.

My curiosity was peaked so I started dosing the I-Herb Ca-Ascorbate two days ago. I'm starting with 1/2 tsp a day in roughly 60 gal of system water. I would consider my zoa growth as of late fairly slow. I also have a couple colonies that stay closed more often than I would like. I have taken some before shots so we'll see how it goes.
Possibly just coincidence but some Keds Reds that I fragged the other day, than have been struggling to open for the past week, just happened to open up the morning after the first dose. If enough anecdotal evidence builds this might be worthy of a little more scientific home experiment Later,

I hope you started smaller than that and ramped up.

Just wanted to update aboutmy issuess with some sps......
I found the true culprit and it wasnt the slight swings caused by my VC dosing that did it, although it could have been a contributing factor. I upgraded my reflectors a while back, and my careless acclimation just took a while to show its face. I am 99.99% positive that the issues I was havign was light shock now. Just thought a few sps people reading might like to know that.

Yippee, that's fantastic! I think you guys should all send me frags of the polyps that made it by dosing vitamin C.
(Just joking you guys, I'm happy for all of you!) |
