Some would say the Octura 1240 generate more flow than the Dumas 3004.

If I were you I would at least downgrade to an Octura 1435 if not the smaller even

I am having a problem with the noise. I can't seem to find airline that is a perfect fit. What about applying a small amount of teflon tape to the shaft? Has anyone tried this?

I know some people like the airline but I prefer the 0.098 inner diameter carbon fiber tube. It is a perfect fit since the shaft has an outer diameter of 0.098. I think it would be more durable and last longer too (**EDIT** I've never tested this though).

I connected my shaft to a dremel and ran it in the tube for a few seconds to clean out any debree/burs.

CB tube is certainly a good option if you cant find the right sized airline or don't feel like looking for it in the first place ; )

The second style.

The one with the solid airline shaft.

How do I go about trimming the prop? Do I just sand down the size of the blades all around or just the end of the blade? Also how much should I take off?

Thanks for the responses.

Well, I've just studied washers for a good while, and I realized some things re: what we have been trying to do with various types of washers in between the magnet and the pump body:

There are two things we are trying to reduce - wear and friction. Teflon, as it turns out, by itself, is excellent at reducing friction, but is terrible in wear-resistance. (IE - it wears itself down quickly.)

On the other hand, there is ceramic, which a lot of pumps use. I have no numbers on this, but I'd guess they are pretty lousy at reducing friction when compared to plastics. But they appear to be very good at wear-resistance. (IE - they last a long time.)

So, it comes down to what you are trying to do - reduce friction, or reduce wear. Maybe its a little of both.

And to throw another wrench into all of this, turns out that the same plastic wearing on itself is usually not as good as dissimilar plastics wearing. One example given was Acetal (Delrin) on acetal wears itself down WAY faster than it would if it were wearing on steel.

Well, maybe I am rambling on and nobody cares. Anyway, if anyone is even interested, here's some good links I found:

http://www.zeusinc.com/newsletter/friction2.asp

http://www.tribology-abc.com/abc/polymers.htm

(Both have good charts/graphs near the end of the page.)

All i have to say is WOW, got the octura 1435 to work on my mj900 mod and WOW, its 5x better than duams 1.25 and 2x as my nitro hammer. It can move some serious water. I used the carbon fiber tube and rod .098 i think when i center shaft perfectly its almost 0 noise, other than some slight hmm whih i think will be gona competly once it spins for a bit

Where is the best place to buy the Octura 1435?

I am trying to mod a penguin 660 and am hoping this is the prop that will work.

I have found it at mjmod, but was hoping there was somewhere else I could buy it from.

Octura props can be ordered from http://www.funrcboats.com/category.aspx?categoryID=109
$2.99 plus $8-9 shipping, i forget.

or directly from Octura (they have no website nor email) they only take mailed in checks or add a$8 CoD and i think have $8 minimum shipping.

Octura Models Inc
(847) 674-7351
7351 Hamlin Ave
Skokie, IL 60076

long as i have been following this thread i don't think anyone has posted a different place that has them.

the best price is obviously to go the the hobby store. They are like $1.50 at mine.
